Oak Leaf Impression in Snow
This entry was posted in Field Notes, My Photos and tagged nature photography, oak leaf, snow impression, winter. Bookmark the permalink.

This is fantastic to see!
Glad you liked it, Anne. The wind whisked away the leaf, leaving its print behind. Kind of cool, I think. 🙂
I love the art that God creates.
Amazing always. 🙂
Very impressive, Eliza! 🙂
Ha, love the pun, Steve. 🙂
That’s so cool because the first one looks like it’s in 3D and is sticking out rather than in. Love the super effects you’ve been giving us 😉
Thank you, Dale. Yes, I could see it both ways, too– same with animal tracks, which often look raised to me, when I ‘know’ they are sunken. The eye tricks us!
I love it. The tricks to the eye.
Great capture, Eliza! Looks like a puffy leaf.
Thanks, Debbie!
They do look raised, not sunken…like Dale wrote. Looks like cutouts for a Thanksgiving pie. Also, the top photo looks like an animal, head on the left, mouth open.
A pareidolia challenge, for sure… thanks, Alice!
What a great find! Love it.
Thank you, Sandy. 🙂
Very cool in so many ways.
Thank you, very true! 🙂
Wow! That is so cool!
A bit of snowfall, followed by a brisk wind. Thanks, Cathy!
That is amazing! So glad you spotted it. 😊👏
Thank you, Pepper. I did a double take and took a step back to check it out, then pulled out the camera to capture the impression. You know how that goes! 🙂
That looks so cool!
Thank you, Kymber!
Beautiful – thank you
Thank you, Ellen!
What a wonderful find 😊
Thank you, Belinda!
This is just gorgeous!
Thank you, Dawn. Couldn’t pass it by without a photo. 🙂
Glad you did, Eliza!
What an amazing sight. You must have eagle eyes to spot that one.
It is amazing and a good example of the simple beauty that surrounds us in nature.
Thank you, Vicki. The low winter sun and its long shadows helped. Yes, there are many such examples of the simple beauty that nature provides. 💕
How cool is that? This teaches us to always be observing the magical world that surrounds us….it’s a treasure hunt!
Thanks, I had a good tutor in the observation beauty in nature. 😉 💜
XO
What a great find! I love seeing ice and snow images through your eyes, Eliza.
Thank you, Joanne, it’s a pleasure to share my findings!
Good eye to door that Eliza!!!!
Thanks, Dawn! 🙂
What a lovely find, Eliza.
Thank you, Tanja. 🙂
Lovely images – I love how snow simplifies the scene, and the way shadows appear in it.
Thank you, Tom. What surprised me was that even with snow on it, the wind lifted it away, but didn’t soften the impression that much.
What a beautiful, Zen image this is, Eliza.
Thank you, Jet! 🙏🏼
Great eye and find, Eliza!
Thank you, Donna. FYI, I’m still finding your comments in spam, even though I have approved you many times. Not sure about WP!
I noticed that last couple didn’t show up when I submitted them. I don’t have any problems with yours, but I have a few others that have followed my for a long time going into my pending approval folder and I don’t know why. I did write an email about a week ago through their link and they never replied to me. Geez, it is frustrating. And I am getting ready to renew for $300….I think. I keep thinking about just quitting, tired of the problems.
Oh, dear, I hope not, as I would miss you and your wonderful photos. They do use a lot of MBs I guess. I’ve been saving space by adjusting my photos to 800.
My space isn’t a problem. Just frustrated with the commenting and likes button having so many issues. I have a hundred comments out there in limbo somewhere I guess, lol I don’t think the issues will ever stop…
I have found that I cannot comment directly on folks’ site, only through the Reader… not ideal, but it works.
How do you find where you left off on Reader? When I load again, it shows the latest, and I have to scroll back way too far, and still can’t find where I left off.
Sometimes you just have to let the oldies go. 🙂 However, if you want to see a particular person’s older posts, search for them in the Reader, then there is a 3-dot widget on the right that opens to select that says ‘open in Reader.’
I will try that!
Amazing. In the first photo, the leaf seems raised; in the second, it appears sunken. In both, the cleanly detailed outline is what caught my eye.
Thank you, Linda. The combination of fine snow packed firmly, then the brisk wind that blew away the leaf isn’t as common as the impressions we get when the leaf warms in spring and melts the surrounding snow, a more icy look. Fun to see the differences!
Oh my goodness, Eliza, I love these so much ❤️
Thank you, Isha! ❄️
Love it! I organised a hunt for geometric shapes in the snow at work (kindergarten) earlier this week. So much fun!
Thank you, Maria. I always loved treasure hunts as a kid (and maybe as an adult, too. 😉 )
As hard as I stare at that first picture, I cannot make it sink into the snow !
Isn’t that remarkable how the eye fools us? 🙂
That is brilliant
Thank you, Karina! ❄️
This is art.
Thank you, Kat. Nature is a fine artist, for sure. 🙂
Finding stuff like this helps make winter so much fun!
It does indeed! Thanks, Chris.
What a great find, Eliza! I did think the leaf was covered in snow at first…
Thank you, Barbara!
That’s a remarkable image, Eliza! Amazing.
Thank you, Monika!
What a great capture!
Thank you!
Oh the simple beauty of nature, grateful
Thank you, Karen, same here!
Nice! I have never noticed impressions like that.
Thank you, Laurie. More often I see the spring melt impressions, rarely snowy ones.
You have a gift for finding unique reflections of beauty in every winter landscape, Eliza.
Thank you, Kris! ❄️
Quite fun…(Suzanne)
Merci, Suzanne!
That’s such a thing of beauty, subtle and graceful. Nice find!
Thank you, Tina!
Hi Eliza. Loved this. Purity.

Thank you, MJ!
Fabulous photo and discovery!!
Thank you!
What wonderful images, Eliza!
Thanks much!
Lovely. 🙂
Thank you, Robin!
You are very observant … that’s a cool find!
Thank you, Denise! 🙂
