You’ve brought back memories of reciting the pledge, with its promise of ‘liberty and justice for all,’ throughout my grade school years. In fact, I first learned the original pledge when I started school in 1950. The phrase ‘under God’ wasn’t added until 1954, when we all had to re-learn it!

Yes, every grade schooler knew it and recited it daily. And do you know, they took ‘under God’ out again many years ago. Not PC, I guess… separation of church and state and all that. I even wonder if the pledge is even recited daily in schools anymore?

  6. Looks like you are ready for the 4th.

  8. You bet! A beautiful reminder.

  9. Happy Flag Day! That’s a pretty shot. I love seeing flags flying on the fronts of homes.

Nice entry way, Eliza! At the moment, I’d like to underscore the reference to justice.

Pretty pictures, Eliza, and great words. I often wonder how many people even remember Flag Day.

A fair amount around here judging from the house fronts. I am more apt to wonder if kids say the pledge of allegiance anymore? The practice kind of fell out of favor. For better or worse, I still love being American… most days. 😉

  13. My brother’s birthday and he always thought the flags were put up to celebrate it. It did help with his self esteem though.

  14. That’s a lovely front porch with that nice flower basket and a calm breeze allowing the flag to hang gently as it should. LIberty and justice seem to be under constant attack.
