This week my sister sent me a fluted Lenox glass vase in the most beautiful shade of amethyst. I’ve filled it in complimentary colors with the tallest flowers I currently have blooming.
Lavender Heart-leaved Asters (Symphyotrichum cordifolium) and spikes of Russian Sage (Perovskia atriplicifolia) offset Dahlia ‘Voodoo,’ which is flowering abundantly.
Fluffy white and pink Phlox (P. paniculata), light and dark pink Cosmos ‘Sensation’ and ‘Lemon Queen’ Sunflowers (Helianthus annuus) add a bit of contrast. Arching heads of Purple Fountain Grass (Pennisetum setaceum ‘Rubrum’) and green blades of Iris ensata finish the arrangement.

Lovely and what a nice sister!
Yes she is 🙂 thank you, Cindy!
Just beautiful! Such a lovely collection of vases you have also Eliza 🌺🌸💕
Thank you, Karen. Sooo many!
I love the addition of the arching grasses and slender leaves.
Thank you, Carol. It needed the extra lift!
The vase is very handsome and the complimentary color scheme sings out ‘fabulous’! Love the tall shape of the arrangement and how it balances the overall look. Hope you’ll publish a book with a collection of all your floral designs from your bounteous country garden?
Oh, you flatter me, Liz. That’d be a heavy book! 😉 Thank you.
🙂
Did your sister tell you she was sending you a package and what it was, or was it a total surprise? Surprises are extra fun, I think! It’s a beautiful vase! The bouquet and vase look so ‘royal.’
Thank you, Alice. She did alert me a pkg was on its way… an early birthday gift. 🙂
…..but no spoiler alert! My sister lives in Holland…I’d rather she didn’t even tell me if she’s sending me a card!
A handsome vase indeed, such a thoughtful gift. I love how your bouquet combines fullness and delicacy, with a bit of Voodoo to anchor the arrangement. 🙂
Thank you, Sandra. Big shoes to fill. 😉
Reblogged this on Purplerays.
Thank you for reblogging!
Really striking, Eliza. I just love how vivid the colors are. The vase was such a good choice with these flowers.
Thank you, Peggy!

Thank you for reblogging!
I am deeply envious of the number of flowers you have in your garden. After the latest downpour, all I have left are a few waterlogged roses!
This has been a good year for our gardens, thankfully. Only a few more weeks left though, before frost puts it all to waste. Celebrate the time left!
You’ve chosen the perfect flowers for your lovely new vase – which is gorgeous!
Thank you, Christina. It required a stretch. 🙂
The color of that beautiful vase with the color of these flowers! Stunning.
Sorry for the delay, found your comment in spam (?? WP!) Thank you for you kind compliments, Sylvia. ❤
That really is incredibly beautiful. 🙂
Thank you very much!
Lovely as ever
Thank you, Derrick
Magnificent vase and you filled it with beauties.
Thank you, Susie. It took an armload!
Beautiful, as always! 🙂 The vase is wonderful and you found the perfect flowers for it!
Thank you, Joanna!
Beautiful!
Thank you, Carrie!
The arrangement is stunning!! How I envy your talent!
Aw, thanks for that compliment and for the inspiration for creativity! ❤
Love the vase, love the flowers!
Thank you!
Oh wow! What a lovely vase you have borrowed from your sister…does it have to go back…?! 😉 The colour and shape really enhance the blooms and the fluted sides must have made arranging a doddle. Thanks for sharing
Thanks, Cathy. No backs, it is an early birthday gift. 🙂 I trimmed some Japanese holly branches to create a support network for the stems, otherwise everything would have just flopped in that wide opening.
Oh, how lovely!! I would have thought the fluting would have held things in place
Gorgeous, a vase like that is a happy occasion to celebrate with flowers! Do I see a touch of fall in the background?
Thank you, Amelia. Yes, fall is creeping in early, after a month of cool weather. However, the past few days have been summerlike, warmer and humid as traces of the tropical storms wend their way north.
Oh boy, I guess you are feeling the warmth from Jose.
Yes, not as badly as your humidity, but it is influencing things, mainly the wind blowing east to west as opposed to the usual opposite. Moist oceanic air far inland!
Wow, what always amazes me is the sheer scale of these storms – then Irma having a reverse surge. Crazy!
Those winds sure are powerful!
Think about it the winds passed by me, what four days ago?
A huge river of air!
probably fueled by Washington
LOL!
A gorgeous vase and equally fabulous arrangement! Your garden is certainly full of beautiful blooms!
Thank you, Peter! I’m glad I had enough to fill it. I keep imagining it with lilacs next spring.
W.O.W. don’t you love sisters? and flowers? Simply stunning Eliza!
Aw, thanks, Kathy. Yes to both!
Lovely vase and flower arrangement.
Thank you, Fi. 🙂
That is one nice vase and an even nicer sister!
For some reason I can’t get your comment site to accept the URL of my blog, so FB will have to do.
Both came through fine… WP is up to its old tricks, I guess.
Thank you, Linda!
Your choices in the color palette were excellent.
Thank you, Jim!
The colour of the new vase goes so well with the bouquet you have arranged today!Have a great week, Eliza!
Thank you, Anca, same to you!
Beautiful arrangement and vase and I loved the Dahlia ‘Voodoo’ flowers!
Thank you – those ‘Voodoo’ dahlias are amazing this year – I’m so pleased with them.
What a beautiful vase – you certainly picked the right colours to fill it. I love the Phlox and the cosmos with the stunning dark dahlia, and your asters are so pretty! I remember them from last year. 🙂
Thank you, Cathy. I gave the asters the Chelsea chop and they have responded delightfully. I doubt they will flop this year. How did your experimental chop turn out?
The chopped part of my clump of asters has almost caught up with the others! Will see how they cope when the flowers open in October!
Gorgeous, I love a big vase stuffed full. The vase is so pretty too and you’ve chosen beautiful shades to go in it.
Thank you, Alison. One of the last hurrahs of summer. 🙂
Your sister has excellent taste, Eliza! I always have problems filling tall vases as I seem to have few long-stemmed flowers (except for summer sunflowers) but you’ve had no difficulty at all. Your asters are glorious. My own are badly singed by our recent heatwave.
Thank you, Kris, I have to agree. 🙂 I really had a challenge finding the right flowers to fill this one. I hope your weather becomes fall-ish soon!
Your sister picked out a gorgeous vase. I love the color and you filled it beautifully! Love the contrasting colors.
Thank you, Donna! 🙂
A regal vase offset by a very pretty arrangement.
Thank you, Andrea!
Perfect match. 🙂
Thank you!
What a beautiful vase! And your gorgeous arrangement compliments it perfectly. 🙂
Thank you kindly, Robin!
The flowers are beautiful of course, but it’s that vase I really LOVE this time! ❤
🙂 Thank you, Julie. Is purple your favorite color?
I was thinking of you this weekend…my first Heavenly Blue morning glory blossomed. And as there are scads of buds, I’ll be set until first frost, which I hope is weeks and weeks away!
Gorgeous colours Eliza and they look fabulous in that lovely vase.
Thank you, Chloris!
I really like your gorgeous looking vase!!! You choose such a beautiful flowers. Thanks for sharing:)
Thank you, Kim.
The flowers are lovely, but that vase – oh that vase. Gorgeous. 🙂
Thank you, Judy. That vase is pretty spectacular!
What a beautiful vase, Eliza. You have SUCH an eye for balance and proportion. The flowers you have chosen are wild and varied in contrast to the demureness of the vase, and yet the whole thing is quite restrained. I am sure your sister will be thrilled with the good use you’ve put her vase to.
Thank you so much, Joanna. I’m flattered!
A lovely frothy arrangement, I do like the vase, your sister has good taste.
Thank you, Brian. I’m sure she’ll appreciate the compliment.
fabulous vase and you managed to do it justice
Thank you, Ricki.
A delicious vase, and a fabulous arrangement. Your sister & you have done each other proud.
🙂 Thank you, Micheal!
The flowers and vase were meant for each other- gorgeous!
Thank you very much, Belinda!
