IAVOM – Spring Mix

Daffodils are in peak form this week and I’ve selected several cultivars to feature in this week’s vase. Joining them are a few clusters of primula (P. veris) and stems of forsythia, Japanese quince (Chaenomeles japonica) and spicebush viburnum (Viburnum carlesii).

IAVOM – Narcissi

The lawn is greening with warming days and plentiful rain, and the first Narcissi are blooming in my yard, hurrah!

In the background of the first photo, you can see N. Jetfire’ and from elsewhere (out of view) I picked for this vase: N. ‘Ice Follies’, N. ‘Peeping Tom’ and (I think?) N. ‘Sailboat.’ Additionally, a stem of Hellebore niger with old and new blooms, branches of shrub honeysuckle (Lonicera tartarica) and black birch (Betula lenta) still hanging around since mid-winter!

IAVOM – Hope Springs

I picked all the nearly open daffodils (Narcissus ‘Jetfire’ and ‘February Gold’) in my yard before the recent snowstorm dumped over five inches of heavy ‘wintery-mix’ upon us (shared in a post yesterday). Luckily, it seems that most of the daffodils and other various flowering bulbs survived. Will it be our last storm of the season? One can only hope.

The vase is a vintage creamer that was my MIL’s. Coincidentally, the prop is a coaster given to us by my BIL. It kind of sums up life beyond a ‘certain age.’ Humor gets us through.
