An old mustard crock makes a compact vase for this week’s autumnal arrangement.

Zinnia elegans ‘Aurora’ and ‘Sprite’, mixed with Dahlias ‘Ice Tea’, ‘Hypnotica Icarus’ and collarette ‘Giggles’ make up most of the arrangement. A few late season black-eyed Susans (Rudbeckia hirta), and bronze fennel flowers (Foeniculum vulgare) with blue/purple accents of ‘Monch’ asters (Aster x frikartii ‘Monch’ ) and mealy-cup sage (Salvia farinacea) finish the piece.

Splendid!
Thanks, Tony!
I love your vase, Eliza. The orange and purples are beautiful together, and I adore crockery, though not sure why. It’s appealing. Enjoy your week.
Thank you, Alys. Crockery is sturdy and useful, solid! 🙂
Wow Eliza, I thought your season was beginning to end. These are still singing the light well kind lady 🤗❤️🙏
Thanks, Mark. Frost predicted this week, so the end is closing in. Making hay while the sun shines!
Indeed kind lady. Alas over here has already welcomed us into the spring and touched 32C 🤗❤️🙏
Ugh, that is HOT!
It is a bit more warm than usual but I’m thankfully tempered a little on the coast with a sea breeze, I only got 29 🤗❤️🙏
A lovely mix of autumnal colors with a nice pop of purple, Eliza. You’ve got the touch. 🍁❤️
Aw, thanks so much, Jane! x
So pretty
Thanks much, Karen! 🙂
Zinnias and dahlias – who could ask for more. Gorgeous, Eliza. 🌸
Indeed, my favorite late summer combo… thanks, Flavia!
A bneautifully bright display of flowers 🙂
Thank you, Anne!
Just so gorgeous. I miss zinnias in my garden.
Thank you, Rupali. There is something so pleasing about zinnias, their cheerful and sunny colors.
Those Dahlias ‘Ice Tea’ are aptly named, I like their unusual color. Very autumn. The old mustard crock compliments the flowers nicely, bringing that autumn glow down to earth.
Thank you very much, Barbara. With a frost predicted this week, my floral choices are waning. Looks like we might hit peak color this week, mostly birch and red maple, sadly the sugar maples are dim (fungal) this year. 😦
Such a beautifully colored bouquet …perfectly seasonal.
Thanks, Alice!
I like the subtlety of the palette you’ve chosen. In the top photo, what is the yellow with red accents flower on the left?
Thank you, Linda. I believe that is Dahlia ‘Hypnotica Icarus’
That so beautifully captures fall, my favorite time of year.
Thank you, Laurie. The colors here are peaking this week, hope yours are equally beautiful!
Muted because of the drought, but still lovely.
What a beautiful combination of colours Eliza! 🧡💛💜
Thank you, Xenia! x
Love it💞💞💞
Thank you, Val!
I love the autumn colors.
Same here, backlit colors shine like stained glass. Gracias!
Dahlia ‘Ice Tea’ is a beauty and works well with the other flowers. That first photo captures all the jublilation of a well-stocked vase! Happy Monday!
jubilation😉
Thank you, Susie!
Love the IAVOM! Zinnias are the best! I grew them for the first time this year!
Thank you, Ilze! I must have zinnias every year, they are such a great flower that never stops until frost.
I agree, Eliza! I will grow them next year as well.
Is that yellow foliage in the background? Everyone seems to have really great zinnias this year. I will need to put them on my plant list.
Yes, that is a Katsura tree, which has lovely color, but will drop all leaves at once if it freezes. Zinnia hybrids have been really amazing in recent years. I always plant them as I love them for vases, but pollinators adore them, too.
What a lovely mix of autumnal blooms, Eliza – summer doesn’t always have the best blooms, does it?!
Thank you, Cathy. I’m happy with whatever is in bloom, and I’m lucky to have enough planting space to have something to put in a vase in every season. TBH, I think May-June is my favorite bloom time. 😉
It’s hard to have a favourite bloom time when you have 12 months to choose from , isn’t it?!
There isn’t much in the winter as my garden goes completely dormant from Nov. to March, but I make out well with our growing season April to October. 🙂
We are lucky in the UK then, well, parts of it, I suppose
Hi Eliza. You’ve inspired me to try and grow some dahlias, although nit sure how they’ll cope with us travelling so much. Can they go in pots or is soil better? Shall have to do some research.
MJ
Thanks, MJ. Dahlias don’t like a lot of moisture when first planted (they’ll rot), but once they are green and growing, they don’t like to dry out, so pots I think wouldn’t work at Le Shack. However, they have bred small 12-18″ ones for front of the border, window boxes and pots, so maybe you could grow one on the boat? They bloom earlier than the tall garden ones, too.
Hi Eliza. Thanks very much for that information. Good idea about growing them on the boat!!
MJ
You have had some gorgeous dahlias and zinnias this year Eliza. What a beautiful mix of colours. And that autumn light behind the vase is lovely! I like that sage too. It is one I have never grown.
Thank you, Cathy. ‘Ice Tea’ dahlia has been the best performer of my new dahlias this year and I just collected seed from Z. ‘Aurora’ to see what I get next year. (Already looking ahead!) Salvia f. is one I always buy in the spring as it flowers non-stop!
Very Fall-ish, and I especially like how the simple vase stays in the background, letting the posies shine!
Thank you, Debbie!
That’s a lovely mix of warm tones, Eliza. And you certainly delivered the glow! I’m assuming you set the arrangement in front of a window, showing off that sunshine outside.
Thank you, Kris. My staging spot is the railing on the back deck and behind that is a Katsura tree all in gold, a beautiful tree in all seasons, but in fall especially.
Oh, now that really says autumn! Very nice!
Thank you, Beth! 🧡
Ohh, yummy. I don’t think ‘an old mustard crock’ quite does justice to the vase. I love it and wish I had one. The colors are magical today and celebrate the end of the season so well. Frost soon?
Thank you, a French mustard we used to get but not sure it’s available anymore. It had a cork top sealed in red wax. Then they started making red plastic lids, yuck. (I just checked online and Etsy has some ranging from $15 on up to over $100. Wow, I guess I’m an antique, too, come to think of it! 😉 )
Frost likely Thurs. nite, sigh…
The dahlias still look amazing, wonderful arrangement!🙂
Thank you! Frost is due this week, so this might be the last of these lovelies until next year. ‘Parting is such sweet sorrow!’ 😉
Wow, such beautiful colors! There’s something very special about blooms in autumn.
Thank you, Monika!
A beautiful color combination and a perfect vase.
Thank you, Rebecca! 🙂
There are some beautiful flowers there, and the zinnias are such a good size, and very nicely put together.
Thank you, Noelle. 🙂
Beautiful, Eliza – I love these colors together! I just ordered seeds for Zinnia ‘Aurora’ for next year, a new one for me.
Thank you, Lynn! I loved the colors of ‘Aurora’ esp. as it ages, a lovely blend of the colors of dawn.
Did you lose everything to frost? I have some tough zinnias than others that didn’t make it 😦
Everything got frosted, so only a few hardy mums and limping calendula and nicotiana left. Dormancy is upon us!
Sadly it is, but it means I will be home more and doing things for my health and happiness a bit more 🙂
There is always a silver lining. 😉
🙂 yes there’s that lol
