Give me a large vase with plenty to fill it and I am one happy camper!
We finally had two days of rain last week and while welcome and needed, several plants of heavy Love-lies-bleeding (Amaranthus caudatus) toppled. Since frost is expected fairly soon, rather than prop them up, I took the loppers to three of them. Thus, the cascading basis of my vase this week.
White frost asters (Symphyotrichum pilosum var. pringlei) and purple Verbena bonariensis top this 32″ (80 cm) arrangement, while Dahlias ‘Debora Renae’, ‘Chilson’s Pride’, ‘Ice Tea’ and collarette ‘Giggles’ fill the middle, with just a few pink spider flowers (Cleome hassleriana) tucked in-between.

They all speak well Eliza, and I think they were displayed at their prime instead of seeing the frost take them away. Beautiful 🤗❤️🙏
Thank you, Mark. Sad to see the end, but it is the way it is. 🙂
Wow!
🙂 Thanks, Sandy! Hotel foyer worthy. 😉
Sure is!
Your joy is felt Eliza🌼🌺🌸 🌸
Glad to hear it, thanks, Karen! 💖
Beautiful on every level. You’ve got a good eye and great skills Eliza. 🌹 🌺
Thank you very much, Dawn. Hope you’re settling in well. 👍🏼
That is a whole lotta love lies bleeding!
Three times that lies in the compost pile, sad but true.
32 inches! That’s amazing. I love the dramatic flare of this vase, and of course the beauty of the florals.
Thank you, Alys! My largest vase that has to make at least one appearance each year, it takes a lot of flowers to fill it!
Your Monday vases are inspirational!
Thank you, Anne. Definitely in my element. 🙂
the love lies bleeding was an inspirational addition, Eliza…
Thank you, a flower that needs a tall vase!
Now, that is one dramatic display. Beautiful. Yes, this time of year with frost heading our way, we have to make choices with our time and our fall chores.
Thank you, Judy. I definitely had fun with this one!
Love-lies-bleeding is so dramatic. I tried to grow some in Texas, but they did not like it there. I may try again.
Thank you! A great back of the border plant, topping out at 6-7′ tall, they require a heavy stake, which I never got around to, thus the toppling. It has been dry, so rain never got to add its weight. If I grow them again, I will be better about staking!
The vase is beautiful, and the second and third views of the bouquet show an inspired hand at work. I haven’t been able to appreciate the love-lies-bleeding as much as others, but your note about its height sent me looking for photos of it in gardens; seeing that dramatic plant, and the flowers draping like wisteria, helped me to appreciate it more!
Thank you, Linda. It is a dramatic plant that can reach 7′ and needs support as it matures, but it does have impact!
The gorgeous vase, all the flowers and the back ground: stunning. I especially love the flower in the second to bottom photo with the ‘extra’ petals inside…is that ‘Giggles?’
Thanks, Alice. Yes, ‘Giggles’ is new to me this year, and while it doesn’t last as long as the doubles, it is a keeper. 🙂
Hi Eliza. An explosion of sheer joy and exuberance. I could get quite carried away with the flowery language! Like you I will really miss seeing these. I think it’s a wonderful sight to share and gladdens all our hearts.
MJ
Thank you very much, MJ. It takes bravery to let go of a cherished garden, but needs must!
How wonderful Eliza – THAT is how you do Amaranthus !!!
Ha, yes –thanks, Chris. Such a dramatic flower! 🤩
Abundance in a vase! A very pleasing arrangement, Eliza.
Thank you, Barbara! I was pleased with the result, The Force was with me. 😉
Dazzling dahlias!
Thank you, Ellen. They really shine in September when lots of flowers are winding down. Have a great week!
It’s all beautiful! I love the draping Amaranthus caudatus…what a lovely touch!
Thank you, Beth. I’m glad I had a vase that could hold it all!
❤️♥️🧡🩷💜🤩🤗🙌🏼 marvellous display!!
Thank you, Susan, it was very fun!
Love your drooping Amaranthus…way to make good use of such a beautiful plant.
Thank you, it was fun to work with. I felt like a hairdresser arranging dreadlocks! 😀
Two days of rain! Actually we had rain over a 2-day period last week but it amounted to 0.07/inch so I suspect it wasn’t the same thing 😉 I can appreciate the joy you felt with clippers in hand – what a bounty! The Amaranthus is a drama queen and I really need to sow some seeds of that next year. Your vase is perfect for the selection of flowers you cut too.

Thank you, Kris. A. is definitely a drama queen with those velvet ropes! Yeah, our rainfall amounts are a bit heavier and I will spare you how much we got. 😉
The love lies bleeding is amazing, as are the dahlia and asters. What a fall show!
Thank you, Amy. I really had fun with this one. 🙂
What a HUGE vase that is, Eliza – it’s not always easy to gauge it just from the photos. The amaranthus positively DRIPs from the vase, doesn’t it, and there is nothing like it! Such abundance today, a last hurray perhaps? Thanks for sharing it
Thank you, Cathy. I’m hoping to have a few more weeks of flowers from my garden, but the window for mega-vases is closing.
Absolutely breath-taking, Eliza!
Thank you, Debbie! 🙂
Pure joy is right–made me smile! Beautiful work, Eliza!
Thank you, Tina. So fun going large!
Wow! This is fabulous! Your title is spot on! What a beautiful bouquet crammed with gorgeous flowers. Enjoy!
Thank you, Cathy. I was quite pleased with this one, wish they would last longer, alas!
That is one magnificent bouquet!
Thank you, Laurie. I certainly had fun making this one!
Beautiful!
Gracias, Maria!
Yes indeed. Pure joy.
Thank you, Rupali!
Beautiful flowers 😁
Thanks, Mike!
This overflowing arrangement is really awesome, Eliza. The dahlias are fantastic.
Thank you, Susie!
You’re very good at flower arranging, Eliza. Looks beautiful. 🌸
Thank you, Flavia!
Striking.
Thank you, Cindy
Wonderful, a cascading symphony of color celebrating the season.
Thank you, Amy. Those Amaranthus are still going strong a week later… I’ve had to pull most of the dahlias, of course.
I need to try the Amaranthus. I used to think they were weird but I think they grew on me..
They are so unusual and I think they’d do well in your tropical arrangements. If I can glean seed from mine, you interested? There is an upright pyramidal form that is bronze-colored, that I thought I might try next year… we’ll see.
You’re right, pure joy in that lovely vase! Loved the love lies bleeding in the arrangement.🙂
Thanks, S! Those LLB are still looking good, but most of the other flowers have gone over. It is such a dramatic flower!
