I pulled out my two-toned pocket vase for a turn this week. Here’s the other side:
White frost asters (Symphyotrichum pilosum var. pringlei), lavender heart-leaf (S. cordifolium) and large purple Aster x frikartii ‘Monch’ provide a filler base for Dahlias ‘Ice Tea’ and collarette form ‘Giggles,’ as well as Zinnia elegans ‘Aurora’ (cream and orange mix) and Calendula officinalis hybrid mix. Purple Verbena bonariensis and rich cobalt Salvia guarantica provide accent.

Again, the components take a bit of effort to identify. There is a lot going on there. ‘Giggles’ is splendid. The whole composition is splendid.
Thank you, Tony. 🙂
Color just pops! Beautiful.
Thank you, Cindy!
Your usual beautiful arrangement
Thank you kindly, Derrick!
A work of art, Eliza! Truly a masterpiece, vase included.
Aw, thanks so much, Audrey~ much appreciated! 💕
Beautifully arranged, I love it
Thank you, Di!
I love that vase …. And the arrangement is gorgeous! There’s something about being bright and bountiful at this time of year💐
Thanks Eliza 💖
Thank you, Val! I was pleased with how this one came together. 🙂
Lovely floral arrangement Eliza.
Thank you, Rupali!
That is a fun vase and your arrangement is stunning.
Many thanks, Alys!
Highlights the flowers even better dear lady…if that’s even possible 🤣❤️🙏
Thank you, Mark. 🙂
Pretty 🙂
Thank you!
This is a delightful arrangement – so glad you can still enjoy so many flowers from your garden!
Thank you, Anne. I’m hoping for at least another month of flowers, but Mother Nature is in charge of that schedule. 🙂
I love how some of your arrangements stretch out horizontally, it’s so pleasing to the eye. The two-toned vase is unique and lovely, too. What a fun medley of colors!
Thank you, Barbara. Structure often depends on the vase I use. Pocket vases are great for horizontal placement.
Every now and then I ponder the amount of decision making and labor involved in one of these bouquets: from seed choice to planting to nurturing, let alone arranging. The result is beautiful.
Thank you very much, Linda. As it amounts to a few minutes here and there, the task isn’t difficult. After all, it is a soul-driven labor of love. 🙂
A beautiful way to welcome fall! Also, I love your collection of vases. How many do you have?
Thank you, Laurie. Last I counted, it was over 100! Many are small, a few large, so it ends up I use a few favorite medium ones most of the time. 🙂
Wowsah!
A gorgeous bouquet! The Salvia is an amazing color. I bought a purple Aster a few days ago.
Thank you, Alice! I really love aster season. 🙂
You know I love asters (and zinnia), beautiful combinations. Kudos on your garden planning to have so much color and variety throughout the season.
Many thanks, Tom. A lifetime spent gardening, and hopefully, more than a few seasons left in me. 🙂
What would autumn be without asters?
Very dull, I would imagine! 🙂
I am in awe of your flowers and how you arrange them Eliza. Just wonderful.
MJ
Thank you, MJ. I’m hoping the weather allows a few more weeks of arranging. You have to take it one day at a time!
Such a gorgeous arrangement, Eliza!
Thank you, Monika. I enjoyed making it!
What an interesting vase! And how I love these bright colors — another amazing arrangement, Eliza!
Thank you, Debbie!
GORGEOUS!
That closeup of the orangy one looks like a painting. Beau-ti-ful!
Merci, Dale!
Mon plaisir Eliza 🙂
Yummy colors, Eliza!
Thank you, Sandy!
Amazing how you keep them coming! A gorgeous selection.
Thank you, Denise!
Very pretty. The colors are fabulous together.
Thank you, Beth!
So is the vase ‘flat’ (front to back)? It’s gorgeous, and you have added some very pretty material to it. The asters and zinnias together with the dahlias make a lovely combination
Thank you, Cathy. I would say the vase is oval when seen from above. It requires a good filler to keep the larger flowers from flopping left or right. The asters are perfect for the job!
Thanks for that Eliza – it’s not always easy to tell from a photo – and I have a vase which is almost ‘flat’ with a wide neck about 1cm scros, and I wondered if yours was the similar

Stupendous! ❤️🩷💛💜🩵🤗
Thank you, Susan! 🙂
I love the color combination, Eliza. Dahlia ‘Giggles’ is a cutie. I have a love-hate relationship with asters. I tried to eliminate all the Symphyotrichum chilense, which spreads by rhizomes, a few years ago. It was supposed to be “manageable” in dry climates like mine but it wasn’t. It’s back now, albeit on a smaller scale during a peak in our current drought conditions. I’m letting it stay for the moment while hoping I don’t regret that decision 😉

Thanks, Kris. Yes, not all asters are created equal. 🙂 Most of mine are wild and the wind-blown seeds end up everywhere, but I can usually weed out the ones I don’t want in the garden. I feel the same animosity towards stoloniferous goldenrod, which will take over a garden if allowed in. We gardeners spend a fraction of the time planting in the garden as opposed to what we pull out!
That is truly luscious Eliza and I am amazed at how much you managed to get in your lovely vase. It must be bigger than it looks! Fabulous late summer variety. I especially love your asters. 😃
Thank you, Cathy. I planted Aster ‘Monch’ last fall after seeing yours. 🙂 I love it! Gardeners are ‘influencers!’ 😉
And I remember growing Nicotiana for the first time after seeing it in your garden! 😃

Love it. To me it really seems like a summer meets autumn arrangement, which I guess absolutely reflects the season! The dahlias look great but I really like the colors in the zinnias. I shall be planting them next year, this year it was on the short list but even that got away from me!
Thank you, Frank! Both dahlias and zinnias are must-haves for me. ‘Ice Tea’ is my newest fav this year. 🙂
This is wonderful. I love the shape of the arrangement and the blue accents. And the asters. Beautiful zinnias, I have to look for that variety. Happy Solstice.
Thank you, Amy. Not thrilled about the turn of the seasons, equinox and shorter days, but I’ll get over it. 😀
Beautiful! So much texture, color and thoughtfulness in every detail.
Thank you, Nathi!
My pleasure 😇
A gorgeous welcome to fall, Eliza! Another bouquet worthy of an autumn bride…
Thank you, Kim! 🙂
Your arrangement is spectacular!
Thank you! 🙂
That is a super beautiful arrangement. 🌸
Thank you, Flavia!
Stunning – vase and the artwork within. This is a splendid autumnal arrangement Eliza. Everything compliments one another so well.
