I went big this week, hauling out my tallest vase to accommodate some long stems that I had the urge to cut and put on display up close.

Providing a focal point, the deep burgundy Dahlia ‘Debora Renae’ matches the love-lies-bleeding (Amaranthus caudatus) flowing down the sides. Dahlias ‘Lemonade’ and ‘Ice Tea’ then add drinks to the party! All three dahlias are new to me this year.
Golden sneezeweed (Helenium autumale), looking like floppy sun hats, add a bit of fun. White garden phlox (P. paniculata) and dancing spider flowers (Cleome hassleriana), along with sprays of purple Russian sage (Perovskia atriplicifolia, syn. Salvia yangii) add a celebratory finish to the arrangement. Too bad I didn’t have party hat props for Cathy!

Sneezeweed is rad. I grew my first from Tangly Cottage Gardening this year. I thought that Russian sage looked like off season Mexican blue sage. oops.
Thank you, Tony. Same family!
The dahlias are spectacular, especially the burgundy one! The cleome adds a nice airy touch.
Thank you, Ellen. I had fun creating this one. 🙂
It is amazing that you still have all these wonderful flowers in your garden!
Thanks, Maria. The cool nights are beginning to show on the annuals, but they are still putting out fresh blooms during these past few warmer days. I’ll take it!
Cool party! The colours work well together.
Thank you, Audrey. I love the last hurrah of summer, such abundance!
Beautiful colors…
Thank you!
The stunning arrangement of flowers complements the garden backdrop beautifully.🌹🌺🌸
Thank you, Caroline!
Gorgeous arrangement.
Thank you, Rupali!
Fab arrangement
Thank you, Sheree!
Wonderfully summery and autumnal at the same time. That deep red dahlia really does go well with the Amaranthus. I love your golden Helenium… still haven’t found one here – I have been keeping my eyes open after seeing it in your vases before! It is one of those plants that hasn’t made it here yet, but perhaps in a couple of years it will suddenly be everywhere. I can hope!
Enjoy the bounty of your garden Eliza!
Thank you, Cathy. I’m starting to see lots of Helenium hybrids, so I expect it will make it over there soon. I bet it is easy from seed as well. Super easy grower, rather enthusiastic, but not over the top. 🙂
Oh party indeed Eliza. And the top photo did have legs…long legs 🤣❤️🙏
Thanks, Mark. That Amaranthus is really something!
Oh my, that is one stunning arrangement. You have real arranging skills, Eliza. Beautiful flowers.
Thank you, Judy. I love the challenge of a big vase!
Love the Helenium in particular Eliza…they’re like small children running rampant around the dance floor while the grown-ups have their own, just a bit more sedate, fun.
Oh, good analogy, Chris! Thanks much. 🙂
There’s that Helenium you mentioned! It is lovely, and fun to see it in a vase rather than spreading alongside the roads.
Thank you, Linda. While supposedly native, I never see it growing wild, but it grows enthusiastically in my garden. It really needs dividing, but where to put the divisions, I don’t know!
Your vase is a colorful and fun party.
Thanks much!
🤗😎😍🙌🏼🤩 I’m in!! Beautiful drama with this arrangement, Eliza!!
Thank you, Susan! 🙂
Your garden and your arrangement do look ready for a full-scale late summer “do”! The burgundy and yellow flowers look great together and I love the Helenium.

Thank you, Kris. We’re enjoying the beautiful weather, too. Nature’s swan song. 🙂
Party perfectly describes this beautiful bouquet! Love it.
Thank you very much, Dale!
😊
Another gorgeous arrangement.
Thank you, Monika! I’m enjoying the garden’s bounty while it lasts. 🙂
Thank you for identifying all these so clearly — they’re spectacular! Those dahlias certainly add a touch of royalty to the mix, and the colors work so well together. Party, indeed!
Thank you, Debbie! 🥳
Ohh la la, this one is gorgeous!! Love the Dahlias, a toast to the Dahlias! Cheers.
Thank you, Amy!
You suggested in your comment that your vase reflects the start of autumn, but to me it still looks fresh and bright and summery – perhaps it’s all those yellows? There seemed to be lots of yellow in your borders too
Goldenrod and woodland sunflower surround the garden in the un-mown areas, and helenium has a large patch, so yes, lots of yellow!
Wow!! And wow! How beautiful your party is. 🙂
🙂 Thank you, Robin. Garden bonuses!
What a beautiful arrangement and the perfect vase. Thank you for the smile.
Thank you! 🙂
Gorgeous rich colors. Beautiful!
Thank you, Rebecca!
Sneezeweed made me giggle. I’ve not heard of that before, yet it seems apropos for so many garden encounters.
Another Monday, another lovely vase.
Thank you, Alys. Actually, it is named sneezeweed because it was used for snuff by early settlers (learned from native Americans) and does have medicinal properties. I’m just happy to view the flowers!
Thanks for sharing that, Eliza. That makes sense.
The dahlia is at the heart of the arrangement, but my eye goes to the flamboyant sage and the bright sneezeweed. Hope I see some sneezeweed soon locally…
Thank you, Tom. Sneezeweed requires management in the garden, chopping back in the summer to make it bushier and staking to prevent flopping, but I still love it (and so do the bees). It would be good in a meadow where it can go crazy. Hope you find some!
I know it from a meadow restoration area that’s pretty overgrown now. Crossing my fingers!
A great gathering and party 💞
Thank you, Val. Loving the exuberance in the garden these days!
A stunning display, Eliza. That featured azalea is gorgeous.
Thank you, Flavia. 🙂
You’ve captured the spirit of summer (I don’t want to say fall) in this ebullient vase. Dahlia ‘Debora Renae’ is lovely. I would have used her in my vase this week. Love that red. And the first photo shows off your beautiful border beyond. Paradise.
Thank you, Susie. I love the abundance of the late summer garden, such a joy. 🙂
Love the riot of color!
Thank you, Barbara!
Love the Dahlias, Liza, and I have never seen the love-lies-bleeding (Amaranthus caudatus), and they look great… never thought about an arrangement “flowing down the sides” – beautiful.
Thank you, Randall. I had fun creating this one!
Lovely profusion of blooms!
Thank you, Alice!
Beautiful arrangement and love the party vibe!🙂
Thank you, the title just came to me with all those bright colors. 🙂
These flowers are so pretty!
Thank you!
