Bearded Iris (I. germanica) have dominated the garden this week and I’m enjoying my root beer-colored cultivar (a passalong, so no ID), as well as a new edition: ‘Champagne Elegance.’ Also in the vase are a couple soon-to-pass Allium atropropureum, and a few lamb’s ears (Stachys byzantina) budded stems.
Graceful Siberian iris (I. sibirica) are also blooming, here with (white with red markings) Caucasian cranesbill (Geranium renardii), oxeye daisies (Leucanthemum vulgare), catmint (Nepeta racemosa), lady’s mantle (Alchemilla mollis), lamb’s ears (Stachys byzantina), seed heads of garden myrrh (Myrris odorata) and brome grass (Bromus sp.).

I thought I’d seen enough irises to hold me through the season, and then I saw that first vase with the root beer and champagne combination. My heavens, that’s beautiful! Those colors — along with the green accents — are colors I could live with. Maybe I’ll repaint the living room!
Ha, great comment, Linda, thank you. I must say I’m a bit smitten as well!
That root beer iris is especially nice. Makes me want a root beer float!
Thanks, Sandy. Yum, right? 😉
Yes!
Such exquisite irises, especially the root beer hued one. Fabulous!
Thank you, Monika. Over the years, those have grown numerous in the garden and make quite the statement as they march across it, heads held high. 🙂
We all agree that the root beerded iris is rad!
Ha, thanks, Tony!
I have a growing collection of Iris, two of them originally came from my grandparent’s garden, while their beauty is fleeting I wouldn’t be without them. Champagne elegance is well named.
Thank you, Brian. I am well pleased with that one!
Your combination of flowers looks delightful!
Thank you, Anne. June is so full of bloom here, it is hard to choose only a few things. A happy problem. 😉
Gorgeous
Merci, Sheree!
Both vases are beautiful Eliza and what gorgeous colours on the Bearded Iris! 💜✨️ xxx
Many thanks, Xenia!
I love purple, they speak well Eliza 🤗❤️🙏
Thank you, Mark. 🙂
Oh my. My gardening pulse quickened. I love Iris plants. It is interesting that our annual MG plant sale does not sell Iris because no one will buy them. Their loss. 🙂
Thank you, Judy. 🙂 When I used to be involved in plant sales, we would cut out a photo of each to show those unsure, what they were buying. That stake would stay with the plants ’til they were all sold. It worked very well, but I suppose it was yet another task to an already imposing list. Ah, youth and its seemingly endless energy! Yet all was accomplished. 🙂
Stunning!! I
Thank you! 🙂
what gorgeous color combinations. Oh my – the cream and white!!!!
Thank you, Catherine. I’m thrilled with them. 🙂
Your first photo is so serene…the vase matches the Irises so perfectly. The green vase bouquet is lovely!
Thank you, Alice. Such a great time in the garden!
Fabulous, really summery. I adore irises, both bearded and Siberian. That deep dark one is amazing and the markings on the deep blue one. Gorgeous!
Thank you, Liz. I’m a bit agog with these iris!
Of course you are, they are fabulous and extra precious because they are so fleeting.
Indeed.
Oh, those irises! How I love them. The root beer iris is especially fine.
Thank you, Laurie. I had to have a vase on the table to enjoy them close up. I am so enamored!
I can see why. What a color!
Just a few daisies and the arrangement looks summery! The pattern on the geranium flowers is beautiful, I don’t think I look at them closely enough… and I am suddenly wondering where my alliums are, they were there last year!
Thanks, Frank. It seems like things are going over so quickly, then it is on to the next. I want to put on the brakes and holler, ‘Slow down!’ Ah, well. 🙂
Your flower arrangements are always so beautiful Eliza.
Thank you very much, Rupali. 💖
Who said you ought not to mix drinks would be amused by your first arrangement. No hang over to be dealt with looking at that arrangement. The second vase is far more ‘Cider with Rosie’ with the daisies etc. Have a lovely week Eliza.
Ha, yes 🙂 Many thanks, Noelle!
The Root Beer Iris has a very unique color.
Yes, its appearance every June is a joy. 🙂
These are so very pretty! I don’t think I’ve ever seen rootbeer and champagne colored iris, but they’re certainly eye-catching. The deep purple, though? That’s my favorite!
Thank you, Debbie. My spouse’s favorite is the Siberian as well. Fleur de lis!
Eliza you have surpassed yourself! And that’s saying something. I didn’t know iris came in those colours, makes me think of chocolate and cream. Utterly scrumptious!!!!
MJ
Thank you very much, MJ. They really do look good enough to eat! 🙂
Wondrous!! 🤩🤗✨
Thank you, Susan!
I will say openly that I am in no way an iris fan, but I can still appreciate the astonishing colours of the champagne and root beer ones – isn’t nature marvellous? The furst vase is elegant and timeless, but the second really sums up early summer
Thank you, Cathy. Hard not to admire these bearded iris, not your average!
Spectacular Irises, Eliza! “Root beer” is a perfect reference to describe the brown Iris, which I’ve never seen before. While I expect that mixing root beer and champagne would be a terrible combination in liquid form, it’s delightful in its floral incarnation.

Thank you, Kris. Yes, not sure that would be good, but perhaps a way to improve cheap champagne!
Lovely! (Suzanne)
Merci!
Amazing color and texture contrasts!
Thank you, Karen. First year with the new one and I’m enamored!
So much beauty in your arrangements, Eliza 😊
Thank you very much, Belinda!
What a range of colors and forms in the arrangements, love the iris closeup at the finish.
Thank you, Tom. Those iris falls are so incredible!
Of course the Nepeta jumped out at me! But I do love your root beer Iris – such a lovely deep colour.
Thanks, Chris. The Nepeta is such a great performer!
Lovely vases, Eliza. I love the root beer Iris with the allium back up, very cool. Your garden must be flourishing.
Thank you, Amy. We’ve had a lot of rain and it is getting very jungly out there. The weeds are growing like mad! And I picked my first peas today!
I like jungly.. yay for peas.
🙂
Those irises are such unusual colours in the first vase – remarkable.
Thank you, Flavia. They are favorites for sure.
Very pretty! 😊
Thank you, Pepper!
I love your arrangement this week, with the pretty green bottle setting off those gorgeous purples. Ah, what a delight.
Thank you very much, Alys. So glad you enjoyed them. 💕
🙂
Oh my goodness. These are gorgeous!
Thank you, Anita. I must agree, such creative perfections leave me starry-eyed! 🤩
Gorgeous arrangements!! I thought the root beer colored iris was the favorite this week until I saw that fabulous photo of the Siberian iris!🙂
Thank you, S. I could look at flowers all day!
How lovely! Who knew irises came in some many colors? Not me.
Thank you, Nailah. The number of cultivars is staggering, thousands!
