Purple globes of allium (A. atropurpureum) started blooming this week in my large garden, so I had to cut a few to feature this week, along with Johnny-jump-ups (Viola tricolor), white forget-me-nots (Myosotis sylvatica) and a few furry lamb’s ears (Stacys byzantina).

Thanks to Cathy at Rambling in the Garden who hosts the weekly garden meme In A Vase On Monday, featuring flowers from our gardens. Click the link to join the fun or see what others are sharing this week.

White forget-me-not?! I was not aware of such a variety. I know that the Allium atropurpureum is the star of the show, but that white forget-me-not is RAD!
Thank you, Tony. Another generous self-sower, I have clouds of them floating around the garden.
They are true to type?! Rad!
Yes, they are. Technically biennial, they drop seed by June and grow small clumps that bloom the following spring.
Johnny-jump-ups. I didn’t know their name…but what is that second color at the tips of the yellow. Its almost one of God’s color’s Eliza, because it isn’t on a chart anywhere 🤣 A lovely vase kind lady, shared well 🤗❤️🙏
Thank you, Mark. They self-sow like mad, but are so charming, it’s hard to complain. 🙂
Indeed Eliza, they are a delight on the eyes 🤗❤️🙏
Wow, those alium really add to a beautiful bouquet.
Thank you, Monika. I love that deep purple, and they have increased, so there is a nice crowd of them. 🙂
Love their sculptural form – great bouquet
Merci, Sheree!
Very nice! Love the contrasting colors. 😊
Thank you, Pepper. 🙂
You’re welcome. 😉
Oh my, what a great display of contrasting colors and sizes. Nice one.
Thank you, Judy!
What a lovely combination
Thank you, Karen!
You certainly are a wonderful gardener and flower arranger.
Aw, thanks much, Alice. 🙂
I don’t think I’ve seen white forget-me-nots before either – they’re lovely! The Alliums are great too of course – my A. Purple Sensation are just starting to open today (don’t have A. atropurpureum) – looking forward to them.
Thanks, Chris. I have blue and white FMN surrounding a large white bleeding heart, which is lovely. The allium have increased, so are showing nicely in the background. They self-sow, but take several years to produce flowers. Glad I waited, but I will be deadheading them from now on. 😉
Ha! YES to deadheading Alliums!!
It was the lamb’s ear that caught my attention. Visually, it reminded me of common mullein (Verbascum thapsus) that has leaves so soft and fuzzy it’s sometimes called cowboy toilet paper. Then, I remembered the Stachys drummondii I recently showed; it’s amazing to me how different plants in the same genus can be.
Yes, it makes a forgiving TP in the wild. 🙂 Stachys is a pretty varied a family. I grow the common S. officinalis, which has green leaves, not furry at all.
Lovely…(Suzanne)
Merci, Suzanne!
Another beauty! I love that name for violas, new to me 😊
Thank you, Belinda. They self-sow and pop up everywhere, jumping-up all over the garden!
What a charming Spring arrangement — the Johnny-jump-ups are a perfect complement to your breezy floral design, as are the white forget-me-nots. Love it! 💚🍃💜🥰
Thank you, Susan! 💜
You are most welcome — you have a special gift for creative florals. Always enjoy them! 🤗
So glad to know that, thank you!
Ah, that’s lovely. Alliums are wonderful for so many reasons, aren’t they? Garden visual interest, mammal repellence, cut flowers, etc. All the elements are great, and the mug as a vessel is perfect!
Thanks much, Beth! With so many deer and voles here, it is a champion plant.
Gorgeous vase, Eliza. I had forgotten the name “Johnny-Jump-Ups”! I so love Alliums and must one day plant some 🙂
Thank you, Dale. Alliums are such an easy bulb and come back reliably. A huge family, from small to large.
Yes indeed. Do we plant them in spring or fall? 😀
Order in summer, arrives for fall planting.
Excellent! Thank you kindly!
👍🏼
That white forget me not is really charming, Eliza, but perhaps I wouldn’t like it as much if it was running rampant in my garden! I like the way you have cut the allium stems shorter so that they work well with the other plants – it’s a really effective vase, and s pretty
Thank you very much, Cathy. It can self-sow itself all over. I’m pretty aggressive with yanking them out before they set seed.
I imagine it’s easy to pull it out, like the blue version here
I love alliums and they look fabulous in this arrangement.
Thank you very much, Andrea. They look good in the garden, too. 🤩
That’s a lovely mix, Eliza! I’m particularly envious of the huge Alliums, which for whatever reason I haven’t been successful in growing. And I didn’t even know that there are white forget-me-nots 😉

Thank you, Kris. These are the smaller alliums about 2″ across. I love the deep purple color and the smaller size works better in arrangements.
I think I’ve seen allium, but I never knew what it was. Thanks for educating me! I happen to love the Viola, despite its not lasting very long when I tried to grow it.
Thank you, Debbie. Johnny-jump-ups self-sow quite a bit in my garden, so it seems I always have too many!
Lovely Alliums, Eliza. And white forget-me-nots? I was wonderin whatvthey were – completely new to me! 😃
Yes, a friend shared them with me, so now I have tons (I remember you stating your mother doesn’t like FMNs because they spread like crazy). 🙂
A swoon-worthy purple!!
Thank you, Tina. Agreed, and I love their contrasting green eyes, too.
Beautiful arrangement, with the globe thistle as the star. The lamb’s ears look like mullein.
Thank you, Tom. No globe thistle yet, it’s coming, though. These are ornamental onion, a great bulb to have in the garden to fill in between spring bulbs and perennials. I love that rich purple.
Whoops! Allium it is, and a lovely purple.
Happy days are here again….
Absolutely… thanks, Gary. I hear you are heading for some hot weather? 🥵 Challenging to keep those new plants thriving!
Love the Johnny-jump-ups accents, what a pretty arrangement.
Thank you, Barbara. 🙂
Oh great colours and Johnny Jump Ups get to star! I love it – I so often just just walk by them in the garden and they deserve more recognition as they are such tough, cheery and forgiving garden companions.

Thank you, Jenny. JJUs really are troupers. 🙂
Lovely! ꨄ
Thank you, Cindy!
The allium is stunning, Eliza.
Thank you, Flavia!
Love the color scheme!
Thank you, Amy! 🙂
Stunning!
Thank you, Adele!
Nice!
Thank you!
Love the combination of the big bold allium with the delicate Johnny jump up!🙂
Thank you! I have a soft spot for JJUs, they are so charming, but rather extravagant in their self-sowing. 😉
Thinking of words that describe your allium … robust, energetic, mighty, exuberant! 😀
Thank you, Denise! 🙂
