I bought this little, blue Villeroy & Boch Dresden Saxony milk jug at an antique store many years ago. It was chipped and priced accordingly, but I fell in love with its embossed cherries and lovely blue glaze, which still pleases me to this day.
A simple arrangement with just three types of flowers: Verbena bonariensis, somewhat snail-nibbled sneezeweed (Helenium autumnale) and garlic chives (Allium tuberosum).

Garlic chive; how nice. They are like small versions or ornamental Alliums. Before I ever met ornamental Alliums, I thought that onion and chive flowers were pretty.
Thank you, Tony. GC self-sow like crazy, so I’ve learned to deadhead them right after bloom. I don’t eat the chives, but love the bloom, as do the bees.
Oh yes, I know how that genus can be.
Beautiful arrangement
💙💛💙💛
Thank you, Karen! x
Looks cheerful!
Thank you, Rupali!
Such a pretty vase. Love the blue with those beautiful yellow blooms.
Thank you, Monika!
Sweet little jug. Do you know how many jugs and vases you have acquired over the years? If we had space I would collect them but tiny homes preclude such pleasures.
MJ
Thanks, MJ. I counted them once and it was over 100! I keep them in a hutch with glass shelves, so I can pick the exact one for the job. 😉 I have more than I’ll ever use, but I can’t part with most of them. I might need them for that certain creation! 😉
And a delight it is Eliza, exactly what was needed for the job 🤗❤️🙏
Thanks, Mark!
Beautiful – one of our favourite combinations, yellow and blue! And in your first photo the Helenium looks perfect – no nibbled parts visible. Love this vase Eliza. 😀
Thank you, Cathy. One stem was close to the ground, so in reach of mollusks. 🐌 The other was from higher up. 😉
What a perfect combination…all ’roundnesses.’ The Helenium’s seed centers are adorable. I would have bought that cute jug…chips and nibbles are part of life.
…I couldn’t think of the name, so had to look it up: the Helenium heads look like Craspedia.
Craspedia and Helenium are cousins in the Aster family, so there is a family resemblance. 😉
I have never seen sneezeweed in any gardens. What a jaunty flower! Thanks for the introduction. That jug is oh so sweet. I can see why you wanted it.
Thank you, Laurie. Helenium is a great native and breeders are working on its lanky growth habit. Like NE asters, they get tall and flop over. In the garden one needs to chop them in early summer to keep them manageable.
You found a good use for the vase and the crack isn’t noticeable. Did you make the doily?
Thank you, glue does wonders. 😉 I wish I was adept at crochet, but the doily is another vintage find. I love the look of crocheted table toppers.
I have several that my great aunt made.
I love your little blue jog — no wonder you fell in love with it and had to have it! And that combination of yellow, green, purple, and white really pops against the blue of the vase. Well done!
Thank you kindly, Debbie!
What a great find, the blue is so pretty. Perfect arrangement for it, cheery as can be!
Thanks much, Tracy!
I love the vase and the flower arrangement, too!❤
Thank you, Kymber!
A very nice combination. And the jug is a great find!
Thank you, Sandy!
A pretty cosy looking arrangement 😊
Thank you, Belinda. 🙂
That blue really sets off the blooms well!
Thank you, Tina! 🙂
I have got lots of chpped vases, Eliza!! This blue jug of yours is indeed gorgeous – I love the glaze too, and the colour is perfect with the yellow helenium, which in turn work well with the garlic flowers and verbena
Thank you, Cathy. Blemishes add character. 😀
What an adorable vase….perfect early fall flowers to fill it.
Thank you, Donna!
Super cheery 🤗💛💜🩵
Glad you find it so, thanks, Susan!
Nice selection of flowers. I like the second image! Sneezeweed is not seen in the Caribbean.
Thank you, Maria. Helenium likes cool, moist conditions, so not a candidate for the tropics. 🙂
👍🏻
The yellow flowers contrasting with the blue jug is perfect combination
Thank you, Karina. 💛
The flowers are lovely, and the jug is a winner. Gorgeous together.
Thank you, Judy!
It’s a pretty and cheerful arrangement! some of my best vase buys have come from secondhand shops – I ought to frequent those more often, although I already have one cabinet full of vases with overflow in others…

Thank you, Kris. I have stopped actively collecting vases, but if I find something that I MUST have, I’m open to it! 😀
The Helenium and the verbena looks great together, and the blue jug is just the thing.
Thank you, Tom!
What a lovely vase and love the combination of colors!! Sneezeweed is a new favorite!!🙂
🙂 Thank you, glad you liked it!
Sneezeweed’s one of my favorites. Putting it together with the verbena makes for an especially fetching combination.
Thank you, Linda. It is a jaunty little flower. 🙂
I’m picturing a snail nibbling on the sneezeweed. 🙂 The yellow contrasts very nicely with the pretty blue vase.
Thank you, Barbara!
This immediately reminded me of Little Brown Jug! You wouldn’t want to be taking this little jug with you out on the farm however! It is a dear little jug and I think you are a woman after my my own heart with the flower containers. I can now tell my husband I know someone with more!! Your yellow and blue is a beautiful classic combo. Are the Alliums a fall variety?
Me and my wife live all alone
In a little log hut we’re all our own;
She loves gin and I love rum,
And don’t we have a lot of fun!
Ha, ha, ha, you and me,
Little brown jug, don’t I love thee!

Thank you, Jenny. Garlic chives are the last allium to bloom in my garden, late Aug. I love the starry clusters and they make a great cut flower.
This is so pretty. The special vase is a wonderful color and really supports the whole arrangement.
Thank you very much, Susie!
That’s a pretty jug, beautiful blue, and I love the contrast of the helenium against it. I have chive blossoms galore right now. This year they self-sowed everywhere. I love them. They are perfect for Autumn bouquets. Even the seed heads are pretty.
Thank you! Garlic chives can overwhelm a space quite quickly, so I make sure I deadhead after they bloom. Easier than rooting out countless new plants!
I will do the same in a few days. I don’t want them everywhere next year.
👍🏼
I like the jug, too and would have bought it! Nice combination of colors – does the Sneeze weed make you sneeze?
Thank you, Amy! Sneezeweed was dried, ground and used for snuff… they seemed to think that sneezing was good for you… which it can be if purging mucus and germs was what one wanted. 😀
Ugh 😩 I think I will just admire your vase!
Very pretty! Blue, purple and yellow make a great combo.
Thank you very much!
