Whimsical Wednesday – Gumby & Pokey
This entry was posted in Country Gardening, My Photos and tagged claymation, Gumby and Pokey, whimsical Wednesday. Bookmark the permalink.

Aw…visions of my youth!
So fun… they enjoyed a renaissance when our kids were young. Thus these two that hang out with us still.
I can recognize Gumby, but I didn’t know there was a tv show. In fact, he was around when I was a kid, but I just have no memory of him — and I didn’t know there was a horse!
I loved Pokey, he played the voice of conscience/reasoning when Gumby came up with hare-brained schemes. 😉
I wonder if Pokey’s still around, and if he’d be willing to take on a gig with me?
Ha, who knows? 🙂
I know of them Eliza, but alas my youth was spent ever lost in the forests, mountains and streams growing up. Maybe not enough variety. Mind you, I did get lost in Dr Who…but only when it was raining 🤣❤️🙏
Thanks, Mark. Yes, they were American icons, firmly fixed in Boomer’s youth.
I show the shows to my grandsons. They are transfixed. Like dinosaurs come to life! 🙂
Iconic members of our youth. 🙂 My sons enjoyed them as well… these are their toys.
🙂
Those two, on all their adventures, have fond places in my memories!!
So fun, yes? 🙂
OMG….I LOVE it! I guess if you ever have walked around my garden you’d know why!
🙂 They are iconic.

For sure! Loved that show!
Long lost friends for my children and me. Thanks for giving me a smile!
Thanks, they are enduring characters, never forgotten. 🙂
haha, I do remember neighbor kids having the little figures – but don’t remember the show.
Back in the day when there weren’t all that many kids shows, not like today. 🙂
I remember Gumby (albeit not well) but not Pokey. Where did you find the garden stool/pot/whatever-it-is?
That is a candle holder/lantern that I picked up at the free table at the transfer station. It is the worse for wear, but the chipped sides face the bush, so it works! 😀
That is so funny as I was cleaning out my desk and found Gumby in it. I also grew up with Gumby and Pokey and I bought the figures for my kids (or me?).
Yes, same here. It was a pleasure to share the tales of Gumby with my kids.
I remember the Gumby character from Saturday Night Live. Very different from the TV series I’d imagine😏.
I never saw the SNL version, but the show was a favorite as a kid. 🙂 He was always getting in a jam, with the lesson learned shared at the end. 🙂
How adorable is that?
🙂 Thanks, Dale. This is their summer house, lol! 😆
Too cute! 😀
Love that Eliza!!
Thank you, Sylvia. Still a kid at heart. 😉
How cute! I don’t remember watching this show at all, though.
Maybe your stations didn’t carry it, it wasn’t as popular as Captain Kangaroo. 🙂
That one I do remember!!
I know i’m dating myself, but I remember those two! 😆
Yes, a Boomer classic! 😉
Whimsical Wednesday! Is this your new creation, Eliza? It’s delightful. I loved Gumby, and I’m sure I had one in the day. Thanks for the fun.
Thanks, it just came to me as I was writing the post. I had a bigger version of the bendable G&P than these two which we bought for our kids in the 90s, when there was a resurgence of their popularity. They are iconic! 🙂
I have never seen these before! How fun!
Thanks, Maria. A kids’ TV show from the 50s/60s. Boomer memories! 😉
Gumby was quite a celebrity while we were in school because Joe Clokey, the son of the creator of Gumby, was a classmate (studying horticulture).
Now that is cool… small world, eh?
I remember them. They dubbed their shows to Spanish.
Oh, that is cool. They were great fun!
Thank you for introducing me to Gumby and Pokey, Eliza. My husband was aware of them but they were new to me. How fun!
My pleasure, Tanja. Sometimes I watch a few segments on YouTube just for fun. Such simple values back then. 🙂
That’s great Eliza … I love little surprises in a garden. Wonder where my Gumby and Pokey are?
Do you have a set of them as well? My kids each had a set when they were little.
I did but don’t know what happened to them.
Love the whimsical Wednesday theme and the characters you have hanging out in your garden!😁
Thanks, my family seem to think my gardens need a whimsical touch, I guess. 😀
