Wordless Wednesday – Shade Garden

Lush and lovely, Eliza. 🌿💚
Thank you, Jane!
Hostas and ferns are great shade plants. And I see you have Ligularias too; that yellow is a surprising touch in shade.
Thank you, Audrey. There are a surprising number of flowers that dwell in shade.
Lovely and refreshing, and so nice to see some fresh green. (Not very green here, but we finally got rain yesterday!)
Thank you, Cathy. Glad you got some rain at last!
Have you seen slugs this year? Did you get flooding rains yesterday? We just got a sprinkle here for a change.
I normally don’t see slugs, but I’ve sure had them this year.
I found a few and I was not looking for them.
As you can see, the hosta and ginger behind the painted fern is a bit riddled with slug holes, alas– but at least the Repels-All has curtailed the deer damage! I put boards down in my cut flower/veggie garden and hand-pick the hiding slugs every morning. Unpleasant job, but it helps!
We did get thunderstorms and some rain, but not a lot, thankfully.
First year I saw them in my raised bed. Glad weather was not bad for you yesterday.
I would love a shade garden, the perfect place to think and restore…
Surrounded by green, a soothing colour. 🙂
Lovely… 💕
A shade garden is a beautiful thing, and in this current heat a wonderful respite.
Thank you, Judy. Much nicer to work in on a hot day. 🙂
It looks like the deer are leaving your hostas alone!
Repels-All spray… highly recommended. It really works!
Lovely. There is something about the different textures and colours of a shade garden!
Thank you, Dale… shade is more about leaves/textures and less sun-loving flowers, but I still manage a few. 🙂
Same 😊
❤
A lovely contrast to our crispy browns.
Yes, I can imagine… sooo much rain this summer, everything is lush.
Pretty, pretty! I have come to love shade gardens. When you live on the edge of the woods…
Thank you, Laurie! As the trees have matured around my property, there is more shade, so I’ve had to adapt my gardens to match.
Those pink flowers caught my eye! 🩷
Perennial Geranium…they flower all summer, such a great addition to the bed. 🙂
How charming!
❤
Your shade garden is doing so well. I wish we could grow hostas.
Thank you. So much rain this year, it is bursting!
Lovely combinations 💐
Thank you, Val! ❤
💚🪴🌿🍃🙌🏼🤗💛
Thank you, Susan! x
Beautiful planting, a good example of right plant, right place.
Thank you kindly, Brian!
So lush and peaceful. I love all the shades of green.
Same here– thanks much, Barbara!
So many lush and lovely plants…everything looks beautiful!
Thank you, Alice!

Knitted together beautifully, Eliza!
Thank you very much, Kris!
I have a very soft spot in my heart for shade gardens, and these show why.
Thank you, Susan!
You must’ve had a LOT of rain for this garden to be so lush and green as August approaches!
Oh, we certainly have… no drought this year!
Your shade garden is stunning. Such a nice combination of form, color, texture–well done, Eliza.
Thank you very much, Tina!
It dawned on me after I hit “post comment” that you’ve had buckets of rain this summer. Would your garden be as lush in a “normal” July (whatever “normal” is :))?
This happens to be planted along a stretch of ledge that drains underneath the garden, so even in last year’s drought, it looked pretty good. I never need to water here, esp. this year!
Your shade garden is inviting. Nice mixture of textures and greens. I haven’t tried hosta in so many years but am tempted again. Beautiful plant.
Thank you, Susie. I am partial to the big-leaved hostas, and thankfully, the slugs pretty much leave them alone. The more tender-leaved ones are munched to swiss cheese!
Refreshing 😊
Thank you, Belinda, glad you found it so. 🙂
Lovely shades of green. 😊
Thank you, Pepper!
What a lovely garden bed of green shades (and shapes), Eliza.
Now, that’s what every garden should have – something visually pleasing for all seasons of the year.
Thank you, Vicki, something I aim for. 🙂
That’s a nice composition. I have a north-facing shady spot in my garden that I’m trying to figure out what to do with!
Thank you, most of my gardens evolved from spaces that were hard to maintain one way or another. Over 3 decades I’ve managed to cut mowing from 3 hours to 1/2 hour… replaced with gardens and wild fields.
Your garden is beautiful and so well designed…(Suzanne)
Merci, Suzanne!
The more shade, the better, especially in July and August!
Yes, if I have to be outside, let it be in the shade!
So green and lush!
Thank you, Maria! A nice place to work on a hot day. 🙂
Despite the problems it has caused elsewhere, all that rain has been good for your garden.
Very true, for the most part. A few leaves are moldering, but it could be worse. I just need to thin them out a bit.
What a beautiful header! I love your tiny mushroom. Beautiful border, Eliza.
Thank you so much, E! ❤
