Black & White Photo Challenge #3

Dec2011 255 - Version 2Day Three – It may be officially Spring, however where I live…

Recap: I have been invited by Ana of Celebrating Sunshine to participate in a Five Day Black and White Photography Challenge. Her blog is full of cheerful, inspirational posts exploring the positive side of life. Please visit her blog to see for yourself. Thank you, Ana for inviting me to this challenge.

There are only two rules for the black and white photography challenge:

  1. On 5 consecutive days, create a post using either a past or recent photo in black and white.

  2. Each day invite another blogging friend to join in the fun.

I’m normally drawn to color photography over black and white, so I accepted the challenge to see if I could improve my appreciation for it.

Today I invite Julie at Ramblings From Jewels to join us in the challenge. Her love of nature is reflected in her beautiful photos, taken around her home in Minnesota. Her poems capture life’s simple pleasures. Please visit her page for a real treat. No pressure, however, this is about having fun!

What a cool image! Still looks pretty frosty there, Eliza. 😉 Thanks so much for what you said about my blog, I really appreciate your kind words! ❤ And thanks too, for inviting me to do this challenge. I'm not so sure I'm up to the challenge, however, as I rarely snap anything in black and white – like you, I am mostly drawn to color. But who knows… if there is no deadline to the challenge, I may feel a sudden burst of inspiration to give it a go at some later point, maybe I can develop more of a liking to black and white…

Thanks, Julie. I hope you do join in, you have a great eye. It has been easy to convert my photos to B/W in the photo editor. Something to do while we await the better weather! 😉

Maybe I should have saved my “wow!” for this one because… wow! Another beautiful one filled with texture and detail. I’m beginning to like B&W more and more.

  9. I think B & W photos offer insight into the structure of things that may be lost in color photography. You certainly have chosen wonderful subjects to enhance the beauty of B & W! Ice crystals are just amazing to me!

    • Eliza Waters says:

Thanks, Johann. I love looking at ice formations, too. Endlessly fascinating to me as no two are alike. BW is perfect for showing the fine lines and contrast.
