IAVOM – Summery Yellow and White

To celebrate the sunny days of early summer, a vase of composites– oxeye daisies (Leucanthemum vulgare), feverfew (Tanacetum parthenium) and white yarrow (Achillea millifolium) are accompanied by white astilbe (A. chinensis), white mallow (Malva moscheutos) and stars of yellow loosestrife (Lysimachia punctata).

IAVOM – Penstemon and Honeysuckle

Sweet-scented honeysuckle blooms (Lonicera periclymenum ‘Serotina’ ) tempt both me and the hummingbirds to stop to enjoy a sniff or a sip. Penstemon digitalis ‘Husker Red’ is also in peak bloom with its blushing pink, surprisingly furry, blossoms. Also included are a couple small red Astilbe blooms and a few stems of fleabane (Erigeron annuus).

IAVOM – SummeryYellow

Summer is here with all its delicious offerings, and what color shouts ‘Summer!’ better than sunny yellow?

Yellow bush pea (Thermopsis villosa), sundrops (Oenothera fruticosa L. ssp. tetragona) and yellow loosestrife (Lysimachia punctata) accompanied by oxeye daisies (Leucanthemumm vulgare) and feverfew (Tanacetum parthenium). Blue spires of catmint (Nepeta racemosa) provide accent.

IAVOM – Peonies

In my opinion, peonies (Paeonia lactiflora) are the elegant queen of the June garden. In this week’s vase, her courtiers pale in comparison– Veronica austriaca subsp. teucrium ‘Crater Lake Blue’, lady’s mantle (Alchemilla mollis), white yarrow (Achillea millefolium) and oxeye daisies (Leucanthemum vulgare).
