Adorable little thing.
Thanks, Monika. At first I couldn’t make out what it was, then the light bulb went on. 😉
Interesting. I guess this colouring could be an advantage or not, depending.
Thanks, Audrey. Best for dappled shade perhaps? 😉
What a find!
Thanks, Anne. Yes, between the black squirrel and this leucistic sparrow, it has been an unusual year!
What a fascinating capture. But think slightly less camoflaged in the leaves.
Yes, I was quite taken by this unusual coloring. As you pointed out, its normal camouflage is disrupted.
Very cute 💞
Thank you, Karen 🙂
Goodness, I’ve never seen such a thing. How pretty.
Thank you, Liz. An interesting genetic variation. 🙂
What a cutie Eliza, those tiny winged wonders are a delight to watch. Thank you 🤗❤️🙏
Thanks, Mark. 🙂
… camouflaged but not from keen eyes. Great shots Eliza!!!
Thank you, Dawn! 🙂
I love my fox sparrows and Juncos
Thanks, Eunice. They are really showing up lately.
They know weather will change though I found an all-black fuzzy caterpillar I got excited.
🙂
You have a good eye, Eliza. What a sweet little sparrow ~ I hope things will go well for him. ♡
Thank you, Barbara. I was in the middle of a zoom class and stopped to go grab my camera. The teacher didn’t say a word… guess she is used to my quirks!
You were fortunate to spot it! Do you have any idea how this appearance changes the ‘looking for a mate?’ How do birds recognize each other, anyways?
Apparently, many species have instances of this lack of pigmentation, including humans. It may not bother them, but who knows?
I don’t remember ever seeing such a bird. You’ve been lucky — and keen-eyed! — of late, with both this and your black squirrel. It’s more proof that there’s always something to see!
Thanks, Linda. It is the first one I’ve seen (a few years back I noticed a leucistic chickadee). In the past month I’ve seen 3 rarities in my yard… so unusual!
Wow great camouflage – I nearly missed him
Thanks, Karina. It was its movement that alerted me to its presence. Their normal brown plumage is even harder to see.
It really blended into its surroundings.
Their normal plumage is the perfect camouflage among rusty brown dried leaves, but this one showed up more as it foraged.
Interesting article. We see some leucistic rock pigeons here
I guess it is more common in animals than we think. Gracias, Maria!
I had to look closely to see this lovely bird!
Thank you, Sandy. Yes, it was a challenge getting a decent image from the house. I doubt I would have been able to approach it outdoors.
The colors blend right in!
Perfect cammo for hanging out in the dried leaves. What a beauty.
Thank you, Dale!
Always a pleasure
Nice find, pretty plumage and bird.
Thanks, Tom. This seems to be the year for unusual sightings.
Hope you have more!
What a handsome fellow! (I’m assuming that’s a male as I’ve never seen a member of that species before.) It’s pretty good at blending in with its surroundings too – it took me a moment to find him in the third shot.

Thanks, Kris. I had to delete a lot of photos for that reason, ha!
Oh, well spotted Eliza. A sweet little fella.
Thank you, Cathy. Since I’m not gardening, the bird feeders are where I get my daily nature fix. 😉
Lovely images of this sweet creature!
Beth @ PlantPostings
Thank you, Beth!
So sweet! I’ve never seen one of these. I’ll put on my “watch for” list along with the black squirrel!
Thanks, Julie. He/she has been around since Wed. Not sure how much longer, but it has been a treat seeing it while it refuels.
Fascinating! They camouflage beautifully.
Thank you, Alys, they are sweet birds that I mostly only see during migration.
He’s a cute little guy and blends in well!
Thanks, Belinda. A bit of a challenge to capture… I deleted a lot of photos in processing!
Very nice captures of this leucistic sparrow! Well done!
Thank you very much, Hien!
Awww look at the cute, almost missed him.
Thank you, he/she is well camouflaged. 🙂
