Lovely. My Iris Spuria are blooming too!

  2. Anne says:

These petals have very pretty patterns on them.

  3. Very lovely, Eliza, and a beautiful way to start the day.

  4. Alice says:

What a pretty surprise to see growing amongst the leaves. What is that succulent? Looks like that spreads a lot.

    • Eliza Waters says:

Yes, it was a happy surprise when I saw it yesterday! They tend to do that, arising and blooming almost overnight. The succulent is
Sedum rupestre, and it does spread, but is easy to control. There is a yellow cultivar called ‘Angelina’ that you may have seen around. It is popular.

  5. Dale says:

They have a subtle beauty to them 🙂

  6. Those are very pretty iris. Do they get any taller or are they more like crocus?

  7. Cathy says:

And so the season begins! I always forget how early these flower, but they are so welcome when spied. 😃

  8. Debbie says:

No Iris in bloom here yet, so these are a delight — thank you!!

  9. John says:

They are very beautiful, Eliza! ☺️

  10. You are so lucky to already get some bloom. Here we have started seeing a few snowdrops and some early crocuses but nothing else as there are still some snow on the ground. Nice pic (Suzanne)

  11. Kris P says:

Their delicate beauty shows off well against the mulch background. I tried growing the bulbs last year with nominal success so I didn’t keep them; however, I bet they would’ve appreciated conditions this year!

    • Eliza Waters says:

Thank you, Kris. I can imagine your conditions would be challenging for bulbs that don’t mind dry dormancy, but need moist, cool blooming conditions. Yes, this year would have been perfect for them!

  12. So pretty! We’re a long way off, but I have tulips blooming inside.

    • Eliza Waters says:

Thanks, Ellen. We still have tons of snow, but I ‘cheat’ a little by planting early bulbs next to walks and the foundation so they come up first thing. 🙂

  13. Looks like a group of little butterflies ready to take flight. So pretty!

  14. Jane Lurie says:

How beautiful! Are the stems very short? Looks so pretty among the brown leaves.

  15. Adele Brand says:

Such pretty markings on the petals! Glad you are starting to get some colour.

  16. So pretty and dainty with those little dots and stripes welcoming spring!

  17. How lovely. Iris petals have such lovely patterns. Ours are just greening up but the flowers are not quite here yet.

  18. Lavinia Ross says:

Those little irises are among my favorite spring flowers!

  19. Vicki says:

Lovely shot of the iris. I always found them difficult to photograph in a way pleasing to the viewer, but never thought to capture them from directly overhead.
