Such detail Eliza! Great photo!
Thank you, Maria! x
❤
Amazing 👏👏😊
Thank you, Karen!
What a great find! Is there still ice and snow about?
Thanks, Joanne! Yes, we got a couple inches of wet snow yesterday and now we’re getting snow flurries. I am aching to see the sun which has been quite elusive all week. 😦
Believe it or not, I know how missing seeing the sun can feel. We have rain again here!
The short days are bad enough, but without the sun, it gets rather grim. D deficiency is a problem in hot climates as well as cold. We need our D to function well!
Amazing capture, Eliza!
Thank you, Anita. These posts drew me right in!
Good colours
Thank you, Derrick, it was so eye-catching.
Interesting and nicely framed.
Thank you, Hien.
Kind of strange that the lichen can grow on something rusty. Looks somewhat like ‘land-coral.’
It does, doesn’t it? These metal guard posts were covered with this lichen – amazing to see.
Fabulous to see such details, the colors compliment the shot!
Thank you, Donna!
Wow, one of my favorite photos, your “eye” captures such beauty.
Thank you, Karen! x
Lichen fascinates me – this is an interesting looking composition.
Thank you, Anne. They fascinate me as well. I never tire of looking at them.
You hit a triple!
IKR? 😀
Now there’s some interesting texture, Eliza. Cool!
Thank you, Sandy. These lichen covered posts just drew me right in!
I can see why.
I love this question. Beautiful and mysterious.
Thank you, Diana!
Well done, Eliza! The detail is amazing!
Thank you kindly, Debbie!
Such lovely colours
Thank you, Karina!
Very cool 😎
🙂 Thanks, Val!
Amazingly cool find, Eliza!
Thank you, Susie… I loved those colors and shapes!
Interesting to see the lichen growing on metal. Wonderful contrasting colours too.
Thank you, Belinda. I’ve never seen lichen on metal before, so I wonder if there was something in the red paint…The colors drew me right in!
Yes. 😀
🙂 Yup!
My initial thought was coral but I then I realized that wasn’t possible, even in a paradise like yours. Although I occasionally find moss, I’ve never seen lichen here so I’m ignorant of its many fascinating manifestations.
I’m sorry that you haven’t seen much of the wonderful world of lichen. One of nature’s great charms, IMO. I have to pause to study nearly every one I see. 🙂
Beautiful detail, Eliza! I confess I would not have guessed this is lichen on rusted metal. My first thought was a patch of barnacles on reddish sand on a beach – or maybe on an old painted boat. Wonderful contrasts!
Thank you very much! It does have a rather marine look to it. I thought of coral… 🙂
Yes!
Beautiful capture, Eliza. I thought the same as Birder’s Journey. It reminds me a lot of barnacles, and the contrast is wonderful.
Thank you, Robin. I thought of coral, as well. 🙂
Interesting facts: “The plant-like appearance of lichens hides their true identity. A lichen is not a single organism, but the result of a partnership (mutualistic symbiosis) between a fungus and an alga or cyanobacteria. Some lichens are formed of three or more partners.” The article continues:

Thanks, Steve… you hit the animal and vegetable… and the mineral?
I assumed the red was something metallic, perhaps a pipe.
🙂
Gorgeous image, Eliza. Rich colors and texture contrasts. So appealing to the eye. 🙂
Thank you, Jane!
Fabulous photo!🙂
Thank you, S!
I thought it looked like coral too. Very cool that it is a lichen on metal. Love the detail and contrast in colors.
Thank you! ❤
Very intriguing!
🙂 Thanks, Laura Denise!
Love the texture in this shot.
Thank you, Fi!
That’s a gorgeous licken on a very nice background. It’s amazing how lichens can colonize most anything and anywhere. Wonderful detail, Eliza.
Thank you, Steve. This is the first time I’ve ever seen it on metal/paint.
Great nature abstract and detail shot! Mother Nature never ceases to amaze and in so many ways!
Indeed She does, thank goodness! Thanks for your visit and comment, Denise. 🙂
Great shot and a good question! It can be surprising what surfaces lichen thrives on. Here it even grows on the polycarbonate roofing over our back deck.
Wow, I’ve never seen that, I guess it is expanding its territory. 🙂 Thanks, Carol.
🖤
That is such a neat photo.
Thank you, Dawn!
