I meant this to be mostly blue and purple, but I got distracted while out picking– easy to do! I started with Lamb’s Ears (Stachys byzantina), Catmint (Nepeta racemosa) and cobalt blue Speedwell (Veronica ‘Crater Lake Blue’) to go with my Japanese porcelain vase.

Columbine (Aquilegia)
Then the Korean Dogwood (Cornus kousa) was looking wonderful, so a few blossoms were selected. The Japanese Lantern Columbine (Aquilegia) had to be shown as well. I wandered by some common Oxeye Daisies (Leucanthemum vulgare), which begged to be included, so in they went, too.
Maybe my next arrangement will be more controlled… though I make no promises!

My daughter has just bought a house near us. Different gardening zone. We are plant shopping, and I am plant removing, sadly, because the previous owner of her house, planted all theses big growth tropicals too close to the house, foundation et. al. So a multi-trunk palm is going. I would save them but the roots are under foundation so I can’t.
There is this beautiful multi-trunk tropical tree, too close to structure of course, which we want to keep, by trimming back the trunks too close to the house. I think it is in the banana family, but I am not good with this. I have some photos I wish I could send you.
You would be wonderful to go plant shopping with right now. Andrea would love you, as do I.
How nice to have Andrea and the grand-twins nearby. You must be thrilled!

There is flowers everywhere around. I did not save any lupins this time, but I’ve had many beautiful vases of them throughout spring. There will be more in a couple weeks..
As we were waiting at a lock yesterday a man came out with a bunch of lavender from his allotment and gave it to me. So kind, so French. I don’t have a suitable vase so it’s in an old pasta jar and not a patch on your beautiful arrangement, but it smells heavenly and looks lovely to me!
Oh, that is so nice and thoughtful! Lavender dries well (hung upside down to dry) and then you’d have a dried arrangement that would release its scent every time you brushed your hand over it!

The actual vase itself is a joy, and looks like glass rather than porcelain. Is the speedwell really that startling bright blue? It’s astonishing! Thank you, Cathy. I love Veronica spicata, I have a pink one which does tends to have a long bloom period if I deadhead it. But my V. sp. incana and V. austriaca ‘Crater Lake Blue’, while beautiful and worth growing, have a shorter bloom time.
A wonderful combination of flowers you’ve created Eliza. The Veronica is an incredible hue contrasting the white flower in the foreground. Also love the variety of texture, especially the Lamb’s Ear. Your talent shines through!

Great selection, Eliza. Your supply of blooms is inspiring. My contribution to our flowers are the peonies, spiderworts, and milkweed. Lots of milkweed for a somewhat suburban garden. And, evidenced by your posts, you also have a really nice vase collection. Lovely.
