Lovely photo, Eliza. Always love the look of autumn colors in combination with water. ❤

  2. Alice Pratt says:

Oh, joy! Perfect! I can almost hear the slap of a beaver tail!

  3. Vicki says:

Very pretty indeed, Eliza. You have so many beautifully colourful trees at this time of year. That’s quite a pond the beavers have built.

    • Eliza Waters says:

Thank you, Vicki. The trees are coloring up beautifully this year. Beavers dam streams to create enormous ponds, a benefit to much wildlife, esp. fowl.

What a magical place. The autumn colors are wonderful!

  5. Kris P says:

    What color you get!

    Serenity aplenty.

  7. naturebackin says:

Gorgeous colours and how fantastic to have beavers around!

  8. Beautiful … so is that a beaver dam?

    • Eliza Waters says:

Thank you, Allison. Yes, that is a dam, at the stream outlet. It has raised the level of the pond about three feet. Its lodge is in the center of the pond, out of view. They are amazing engineers!

  9. AmyRose🌹 says:

Yep. Looks just about like that here. I’ve yet to see a beaver, though I’ve seen their homes. Happy Friday, Eliza!!

  10. So lovely, so fleeting.

  11. Kathy Sturr says:

We have beavers at the lake … they are fascinating. On the drive there from our old house, there is a beaver pond in the middle of a field. It is very cool. This is a beautiful capture, Eliza, of autumn. I love the hints of green gone by.

  12. Jewels says:

    Mmm… Beautiful, Eliza. I love autumn’s palette ❤

    Oh! those autumn colours! Beautiful!

  16. Robin says:

Oh my… breathtaking image, Eliza. I love the colors, the reflection, the light, the everything. 🙂 You are quite a bit ahead of us in terms of fall colors.

    • Eliza Waters says:

Thank you, Robin! Yes, even though our peak is late this year, there are quite a bit of trees turning. Unfortunately, recent rain and wind has brought much of it down. There is a brown leaf spot fungus that infects a lot of maple and ash trees now, where the leaves turn brown and just fall off instead of coloring up. Driving around today, it was disappointing how washed out the hills looked. Clear, bright red/orange isn’t happening the way it used to. Kind of a bummer. 😦

  17. Beautiful autumn scene! How often do you see the beavers busy at work?

    • Eliza Waters says:

Thank you! As they are mostly nocturnal, I don’t see them all that often, maybe once or twice a year– unless they are feeding upon saplings along our river, we might see them more often. However, I see their work all the time, either in debarked/chewed sticks, cut brush, or damming.

  18. Joanna says:

Very beautiful. Beavers are amazing animals! 🙂

    Beautiful

  20. Rebeccabecca says:

Gorgeous colours, Eliza. We don’t have beavers in Australia, though I’ve read about them. I’m curious — are they nocturnal, like so many of our mammals? I see from some of your other readers’ comments that people do see them during the day, so probably not?

    • Eliza Waters says:

Thank you, Rebecca. Technically, they are nocturnal, but one can see them sometimes in the late afternoon if they come out early. Yearlings are turned out of the den by their parent to make room for the next brood, so we’ll often see these wandering ones along our river. Inexperienced ones have tried to make dams, but storms frequently flood the river, washing everything away. They are much more successful with habitat like in the photo – swampy marsh and a small stream to dam.

  21. Dry nice Eliza! Beautiful Fall colors in a lovely scene!

  22. Jet Eliot says:

I love seeing a beaver dam on the beaver pond, Eliza. They are such busy and productive mammals, and what a serene place this pond is. Truly lovely with the autumn colors right now, too.

  23. A beautiful view Eliza, especially with the reflections in the water.

  24. Wonderful photo. The fall colours are really spectacular this year.
