Our heatwave finally broke today and to celebrate I was inspired to create an arrangement. Blue Lacecap Hydrangea (H. macrophylla) is looking great right now, and along with a couple of my dwindling Azure Alliums (A. caeruleum), were my blue choices for the cobalt vase.
Contrasting yellow Daylily buds, which will open tomorrow (Hemerocallis ‘Happy Returns’), golden Sundrops (Oenothera fruticosa) and Black-eyed Susans (Rudbeckia hirta) are accented with wild Daisy Fleabane (Erigeron annuus) and some Poppy seed pods (Papaver somniferum).
Now that the weather has become more pleasant, I look forward to spending the next few days in the garden. Enjoy your weekend!
The colour mix is fab!
Thank you!
Very Nice Eliza! Your garden must be beautiful seeing your colorful arrangements!
Thank you, Reed. Gardening is definitely one of my passions. 🙂
Celebration in a vase…..enjoy your coming hours in your gardens…..there’s always so much to enjoy and ‘do.’ I pulled up a lot of Daisy Fleabane & cut St Johnswort back…could barely walk on that part of the patio. Saw a Monarch, again, today, enjoying the blooms & Milkweed.
Thank you, Alice. As much as I love the fleabane, I’ve learned not to let it in my gardens where it self sows too readily. It’s perfect in the fields.
No caterpillars yet on my patch, but I keep hoping. My sister in the next town over has at least one fat one. So much hope on such a small creature!
Oh, so so beautiful!! 😍🌸😍🌷😍🌺
Thank you, Trini!
What a gorgeous color combination, Eliza! The flowers and vase were meant to go together. 🙂
Thank you, Lynn! I really love cobalt blue glass. My mom had a vase like this when I was growing up; it’s nostalgic for me.
What colors! Great mix!
Many thanks!
Love the contrast. A summer color scheme. Happy Returns and Poppy pods perfect partners.
Thank you, Amelia. Loving the endless variations to play with at this time of year.
Fun in the perennial garden
wonderful its getting
cooler now!
nice garden 🙂
Thank you! I’m enjoying the break in the weather while it’s here.
Very pretty.
The colors go together so well, and I absolutely love that vase!
Thank you, Maysa!
That is quite lovely. I’m glad your heat wave broke. It was gorgeous here in the midwest.
Thank you, Jim. I’m enjoying the pleasant weather today, in the 70s and dry. Ahhh!
A splendid way to celebrate the arrival of cooler weather. What a week! Yesterday I felt like a wet noodle.
Thank you, Laurie. I’ve been really enjoying this respite. So glorious!
Sure is!
My favorite color mix! Enjoy your weekend, Eliza! I’m afraid the heat has finally found us so we’ll be hunkered down inside. It hit 110F here today and tomorrow is expected to be the same. It’s 9:30pm and still 102F now.
Thank you, Kris.
Oh, golly, that is HOT! Like living in an oven. Hope your plants are enduring.
Such a skill, Eliza! Lovely.
Thank you kindly, Steve!
Wow
Thank you, Prasenjeet. 🙂
A typically beautiful arrangement. I’m pleased the weather has broken for you
Thank you, Derrick. We’ll enjoy it while it lasts.
I love blue and yellow.
Glad to hear it, Sherry. I find it so cheerful.
The heat broke here as well…but is due back on Monday after a nice weekend! And the drought continues….
We could use a good day of rain as well. Do you hand water or leave it to nature’s will?
I water the tomatoes and peas and containers, and some of the
…oops…some of the things I planted in May….but that’s it.
Yes, the young ones need tending. My perennials are pretty self-sufficient, thankfully.
Such a beautiful combination of shapes and colours! Enjoy the fine weather😊
Thank you, Belinda!
Awe, naturally I like this one, since it’s Sweden’s colors. Your beautiful bouquet almost looks like my moms wedding bouquet. She had a huge bouquet of flowers from a nearby field. No florist in the world could of made an more beautiful arrangement than the one she made herself, with a little help form one of her friends. I can still see it inside my head, even though I don’t have a photo, unfortunately. My sister and I had matching smaller bouquets. Thank you for another very beautiful post.
Thank you very much, Maria!
Always a delight to read of your love of flowers. Really like the yellow and blue theme.
Thank you very much, Diana.
Lovely, as always!
I’m glad to hear the heat broke there, too! Choppy and I took a long walk this morning and I needed my sweatshirt at the start of it. Such a pleasant change from our long walk on the 4th, after which I needed a shower!
Thank you, Sarah. 70s, breezy and dry – perfect! as I sit here on the deck enjoying it all. 🙂
Happy news that the heat is finishing for those who are not used to it. We somehow missed out on it, and it was actually cooler than normal for us while all this was going on. It had been warmer in Portland than it was here (near San Jose) for a while. It finally got warm yesterday, about the time heat was finishing for everyone else, but still has not been more than 100 degrees.
Heat is one thing, but add in humidity, and you get awfully uncomfortable. In the low 70s today and super grateful for it!
It is finally getting close to 95 for us, but pleasantly arid.
One of my favorite combinations. Thanks for the bright spark today 💛
Thank you kindly, Val!
Nice !
Thank you!
Love blue and yellow compositions, and these are of course gorgeous! I what makes your arrangements so wonderful is the layering of three levels of artistic endeviour.
…the art of planting, careful growing and cultivation; the art of arrangement; and the art of photography!
Thank you very much! Much appreciated. 🙂
Absolutely beautiful!! Blue and yellow look so good together and the vase is perfect! I think I found some of the Daisy Fleabane in the woods last Sunday…a lovely flower!
Thank you, Joanna! I love daisy fleabane in arrangements, it makes a great filler and lasts well. I don’t let it in my gardens, though, as it tends to self-sow too readily in awkward places. 😉
Stunning as always. I love your colour choices.
Thank you, Karina!
Very Cool Eliza 🙂
Thank you, Karen. 🙂
Beautiful arrangement!🙂 Love the wonderful colors of the flowers and vase. Enjoy your time outdoors in the wonderful weather!🙂
Thank you!
Oh, Eliza, you’ve outdone yourself with this bouquet. The poppy pods are just right, too!
Thank you so much, March!
What an artistic bouquet! Just lovely 🙂
Glad your heatwave has broken. There’s no end in sight to the sweltering conditions here.
Thank you, Adele. Being July, the temps will return to hot again soon, but I’ll take the break for now. Hope you get a break soon, too!
Gorgeous! Love the blue lace cap in there! I have barely set foot outside for the last few days due to the heat and am getting some cabin fever, so I am so glad that it is finally a bit cooler.
Thank you, Indie. Yes, these past two days have been glorious compared to last week. I guess next week will bring back a bit of heat once again. Enjoy the day!
Love the colours! Gorgeous!
Thank you!
Lovely selection and arrangement.
Thank you, Vicki!
Oh I love this arrangement Eliza! 😍
Thank you, Julie! 🙂
Lovely, simple contrasting colors.
Thank you!
Blue, yellow and white flowers in a dark blue vase. What could be prettier? (Don’t answer that question.)
🙂 Thank you, Cynthia!
I just smile at your bouquets. They always give a bit of a lift! I hope your weekend weather was as lovely as ours was down here. Dropped into the sixties Saturday night!
Thank you, Lisa. Our weather couldn’t have been more perfect. Cool, dry and sunny – apparently, we’re back to 90 tomorrow. 😦
So many blues, so many yellows…and they play together so nicely.
They are one of my favorite combinations. Thanks, Ricki.
I love how the blue and yellow work together. beautiful.
Thank you!
Beautiful Eliza! Only you could make blue look so cheery! Black eyed Susans? Opening already? Gulp, that always signifies the winding down of Summer to me … way too quick!
Thank you, Kathy! 🙂 Goldenrod does that for me – I see it budding up and I know we’re on the slippery slope towards fall.
I was thinking of you this morning, how envious I am that you get to escape the winter… how I wish I could opt out, too! 😉
What a beautiful blog you have! Nature, rest and BEAUTY……certainly a haven for the weary. Nice to “meet” you here. Blessings.
Thank you very much. Your visit is much appreciated!
Gorgeous … I love these colors together!
Thank you, Denise!
