Gorgeous shots. How do you work with a camera outside in these temps?? So cold here and dropping.

    • Eliza Waters says:

Thank you. It was around 20F when I took these. I can’t work too long when it is below that, esp. with the single and neg. digits we’re getting the next few days. Stay warm!

  10. Joanna says:

Lovely! Did you get freezing rain, then? We got two big snow storms, and now its very cold and windy.

    • Eliza Waters says:

Thank you, Joanna. It rained on Sat. then over Xmas, it snowed 4″ so everything is layered. Yes, now the wind is up and very cold… I expect it is extremely cold at your place. STAY WARM!

Ice storms always remind me of fairies, though a bit hard on the trees. You captured them beautifully!

  18. Beautiful. It looks so sparkly and pretty. We are -3 degs tonight, but there is a lot of nasty black ice about already.

That picture with the leaf is a little jewel. Stay warm by the stove. It’s a good time to read books you haven’t been able to get to!

  21. Murtagh's Meadow says:

Wow, everything encased in their own ice blanket. We woke to sharp frost this morning too.

  22. Rebecca says:

Many years ago I spent a winter in Michigan and my boyfriend of the time described ice storms there that left the trees looking like they do in your pictures. We didn’t experience this that year, though the lakes were frozen and I experienced ice sculptures on the street that didn’t melt for 6 weeks for the first time in my life! Lovely photos, Eliza, and merry Christmas xo

    • Eliza Waters says:

Thank you, Rebecca. Ice storms are not well received for the damage they do, but they happen at least a couple times a winter. Not every storm can be nice, light powder, much preferred, as they make clean up a breeze! Our temps will not climb above freezing reliably until Feb. Strangely enough, our biggest snowfalls usually happen in March, but by then, the warmer days help melt what comes.
Best to you in the new year!

  23. neihtn2012 says:
