This week is the fourth anniversary for Cathy at Rambling In the Garden’s meme to showcase arrangements created from our gardens. To celebrate, she has requested that we create an arrangement in an object not normally used for a vase.
As you can see, I’ve used a seashell I found while vacationing years ago in the Bahamas. It is supposed to look like a Hermit Crab, made from the succulent Senecio archeri. The eyes are cotoneaster fruit skins stuck on ivy geranium flower stalks.
The props, a skeletonized sea fan, small shell and piece of sponge coral, were also beach finds. The wooden puzzle of a tropical fish was purchased on a different trip to Jamaica.
Wander over to Cathy’s to see what innovative arrangements gardeners all over the world have created this week.
An intriguing combination.
Thank you, Anne.
Interesting & inventive!
Thank you, Micheal. It was a fun one to make!
You are a very creative decorator!
Thank you, Alice!
Well done
Thank you, Derrick
Very inventive and it looks so beautiful. I love beachcombing too; what treasures you have collected.
Thank you very much, Chloris. I used to travel a fair amount in my younger days, not as much now, alas.
What a wonderful creation Eliza! I love the ‘eyes’! 😀
Hehe, thanks, Cathy. I had fun with this one. 🙂
A very creative arrangement Eliza.
Thank you, Andrea.
very creative and cool Eliza ❤
Thank you, Kim!
So much fun! Under the sea. And, wow, finding that shell! That would certainly make my day.
Thanks, Laurie. Yes, I thought about Sebastian the Crab while I made this! It was an unusual find, in a backwater cove. Mostly one comes across conch shells, with holes made in them by the locals to dislodge the occupant destined for soup. 😦
Eliza, this is absolutely fabulous! Love your creativity! It’s so much fun to just go with it. LOL 🤗
Thank you, Amy. It was fun to follow the inspirational thread. 🙂
LOVE LOVE LOVE this!!! So creative and really great finds! I have a little air plant hanging from a sea anemone shell – looks like a jellyfish! and survived the winds of Irma! I was so surprised to see him still floating about.
Thank you, Kathy! Sounds like a very strong and well-anchored air plant (Spanish moss?)
It does look like a hermit crab, very creative!
Thank you!
Eliza this is so very clever and creative….it definitely looks like a hermit crab! Wonderful display.
Thank you very much, Donna!
Brilliant! So much fun to see what everyone is doing this week.
I agree – thanks, Linda.
Oh I love this! Excellent work (play) Eliza!
Thank you, Loree. I thought you’d like the Senecio, right up your alley. 😉
EW! contoneaster peels on geraniums stalks? How funny.

Oh that’s a great interpretation of the challenge, Eliza – the hermit crab is brilliant! I am so pleased people are enjoying the challenge – watch out for next year’s…! 🙂
Thank you, Cathy, it was a fun challenge. Looking forward to year 5!
Very creative, Eliza! I thought the gray foliage plant was Senecio but was confused by the red tips until I read your brief. Actually, on first glance, my brain translated the seashell and sponge coral piece as hands. Your choice of the wood puzzle as a backdrop was perfect.
Thank you, Kris. Much appreciated!
Very creative and fun! You always make such great arrangements!
Thank you, Peter. I could say the same of yours!
A magical sea creature! I love it.
Thank you, Alison!
Oh that’s a most striking and colourful arrangement Eliza and what fabulous beach treasures.
Thank you, Anna.
I second everyone above AND love that colorful sea tile behind…

What fun Eliza! Has he got up and walked away yet. Dazzling colours too, for a dank November morning!
Thank you, Cathy. Glad you liked it!
Just fabulous Eliza – what an imagination you have, and an eye for excellent beach finds!
Thank you, Joanna!
Great idea. I’m gathering some air plants because I’m in Florida and have found some.
Gracias! Tilandsias love humidity so I expect they will do well.
Incredibly creative! That Senecio archeri is the most brilliant blue I’ve yet seen in a succulent leaf – or any leaf (and I’m including the blue agave!).
Thank you. Yes, it’s quite blue! It’s a sturdy houseplant that I’ve had for years.
Nice artwork
Thank you, RJ.
