My sunflower pocket vase, another from my collection of hand-painted pottery made in Ecuador by Artesia, seemed perfect for the colors in this week’s autumn arrangement. The backdrop of fall foliage adds to the seasonal feeling.
The past week has seen several frosts that have ended my annuals, deepened the colors of perennials such as Sedum ‘Autumn Joy’ and leaves of the maple, ash and birch trees around my yard.
Black-eyed Susan (Rudbeckia hirta) have sent up a flush of new blooms and used here, reflect the sunflower on the vase. A few dried milkweed pods (Asclepias tuberosa) signal the end of the garden year.
While the heart-leaved asters (Symphyotrichum cordifolium) in my main garden are done blooming, the woodland edges still have plenty to offer and I never tire of using them as filler. The harlequin foliage is swamp maple (Acer rubrum) and maiden grass (Miscanthus sinensis ‘Gracimillis’) offers a vertical splash.
Thanks to Cathy at Rambling In the Garden, who hosts a weekly meme to showcase what is blooming in our gardens. Wander over to see what gardeners all over the world are arranging this week.
Very colourful.
Thank you, Rupali.
It goes to show: there is always something in one’s garden to bring indoors – I love the autumn leaves in your vase.
Thank you, Anne. I might have to go further afield, but I can generally track something down. 🙂
Reblogged this on Anita Dawes & Jaye Marie.
Thank you! 🙂
You don’t need to know your flowers, you can tell the seasons from your photographs!
Ha! You’re right. Thanks for your visit!
That’s a very impressive display. The range of colors in it (including a few seasonal reds!) makes a good match with the colorful vase, I think.
Thank you, Bun!
Still so vibrant!
A few more weeks left. 🙂
A riot of colour. Fabulous 🙂
Thank you, fall is so glorious!
PERFECT indeed!
Thank you so much, Catherine! ❤
I like what Murtagh’s Meadow said – “a riot of color!”
It is! Thanks, Mary. 🙂
That’s spectacular and I love the styling. Another inspired vase choice.
Thank you very much, Susan.
So vibrant … amazing towards the sand of the season 💛
Thank you, Val. 🙂
This looks so much like fall – we finally got a hard frost last week, so things are starting to die off. Of course, it’s going to be in the 70s today, so it feels nothing like fall once again!
Yes, it is warm here today, too, and they are predicting 80s tomorrow! I put all my summer things away, so I guess I’ll have to dig some out. It’s Indian Summer!
I’ve had some great walks here – I will not be complaining!
Every week when you post In a Vase on Monday, I think. this is my favorite. It seems I have a lot of favorites 😉
🙂 Sweet thing to say, thank you, Laurie!
i think we should just use your blog to teach our botany course. 🙂
High praise indeed – thank you, Kim! ❤
It’s outstanding, Eliza.
Thank you very much, Cynthia.
It’s difficult to decide what I like better; your collection of vases or your arrangements? Another stunner!
Ha! Thank you kindly, Kathy!
Before reading, I thought this splendid arrangement reminiscent of S. America!
I can see it has a bit of an Inca feel to it. Thanks, Derrick.
Inca was actually my thought 🙂
It was made by Incan descendants, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. 😉
The fiery colors of autumn in your bountiful arrangement bring warmth to the cold days of the season. Beautifully done as always!
Thank you so much, Peter!
It’s not often that one can create an arrangement that so perfectly complements one’s vase. And says autumn to boot!
Thank you, Linda!
Another of your adorable vases – and absolutely spot on for your blooms and foliage today! Thanks for sharing
Thank you, Cathy!
I like the variety of these arrangements!
Thank you, each one is unique!
At first I wasn’t sure which was more impressive, the vase or the flowers. I guess it’s the combination oft he two – very nice.
Thank you, David!
Simply stunning. Great use of colors and textures.
Thank you, Susie!
Aaaah, lovely! Such a beautiful autumn display in your gorgeous vase. The Rudbeckia look great and the asters and foliage really bring out the colours in your vase. Sigh…. the gardening year draws to an end with a grand finale! 🙂
Thank you so much, Cathy. It does feel like a grand finale. The weather has been so very fine!
I always love your flower choices, but I have to say the vase wins the prize this week. Wow- unusual and beautiful. 🙂
Thank you kindly, Judy!
The fall foliage threaded through the display is transforming and absolutely suits the beautiful vase.
Thank you very much, Allison.
Wow! This is stunning, Eliza. Every time I pick a favorite, you surpass it. So, for this week, it’s my favorite. I love it. ❤
Thank you, Robin! 🙂
Your fall garden appears to be off to a glorious start, Eliza! I do love those vases of yours. If I ever come across one sold locally, you can bet I’ll snap it up.
Thank you, Kris. The pottery is beautifully made, all painted by hand. My husband toured the factory and they made us each a cup with our name on it, which I thought was so sweet.
Very seasonal, I feel the need for a pumpkin. Just love the blue asters and Maple foliage.
Thank you. Do pumpkins grow in FL or do they have to be shipped in?
Eliza, pumpkins do not grow this far south during normal pumpkin season – beyond that I am not sure as winter vegetables here are still somewhat of a mystery to me.
Wow what a fabulous explosion of of autumnal colour Eliza! I love the vase too – such a pleasing shape.
Thank you, Anna. It does look a bit like an explosion, esp. with the maiden grass! 🙂
Beautiful.
Wonderful selection of autumn’s finest stand out in that beautiful vase.
Thank you, Belinda. 🙂
Kind of exuberant and out-there! Reminds me of the Indian dancers we occasionally see around Los Angeles. ( https://mkpix.wordpress.com/2013/09/02/happy-birthday-los-angeles/ ) Am I right or what?
Totally! I love the comparison!
😉
Wonderful colours and a unique vase!
Thank you, Fi!
What an amazing vase, I love it. And you have complemented it beautifully with your lovely choice of flowers. Great to get a glimpse of your woodland edge as a background too. It sets off the arrangement beautifully.
Thank you, Chloris!
That sure shows its Autumn. Lovely.
Thank you, Dorris, it is a lovely time of year, for sure!
Gorgeous vase and flowers!
Thank you, Ellen!
Autumn in a vase, lovely composition, the grasses and leaves from the maple add a lot of interest.
Thank you, Christina. I love the color of the maples, even as they dry, they are lovely.
