A simple vase of lilacs this week needs no further introduction. Its fragrance is sublime!

Simple maybe, but oh how elegant…love the colors!
Thank you, Donna!
Ah Lilac…such beautiful flowers and scent. Very nice bouquet and nice close-up. (Suzanne)
Thank you, Suzanne!
Nice color variations. I’m sure it smells good, too. You need to add the Smell widget to your sidebar?
Yes, a scratch and sniff!
Looking lovely as always Eliza. Gorgeous blooms and a very pretty vase too. Lilacs are wonderful shrubs aren’t they? I’ve been making a point of walking past ours after dark because they seem to pump out even more scent into the still warm evening air.
Thank you, Gillian. I love that idea, I’ll have to try that!
The simple spring flowers we have all come to know and love can without a doubt hold their own amongst the most exotic flowers out there. Stunning, and I’d really enjoy a scratch and sniff. 🙂
Thank you, Judy. What can be more wonderful than an armful of lilacs on a lovely spring day? 🙂
Mmmm, lovely! The vase is really pretty too. 🙂
Thank you so much, Cathy!
So beautiful!!
Thank you, Dor, aren’t lilacs wonderful? 🙂
Every inhale – mmmmmmmm
Yesssss! 🙂
Gorgeous! They are blooming at The Holler now too~
Thank you, Cindy. I didn’t know you could grow lilacs in SCA!
So you’re back from your trip? – bet you had a great time. Welcome home. 🙂
Oh yes! those colors are stunning!!
Thanks, Kim. 🙂
I can almost smell them. Lovely vase. You must have quite the collection. I feel as though I haven’t seen the same one twice, although I could be wrong about that 😉
Thanks, Laurie. I do have a rather large collection, as I have been collecting them since high school. 🙂 I try to vary the use of them for the IAVOM posts, but I do have my favorites.
Of course you do. And how appropriate for someone who loves flowers to have a large collection of vases.
😉
They’re spectacular, Eliza! (I love the vase too.) Low-chill lilacs are sold here but I’ve never seen any vigorous specimens – it’s such a pity as you can’t beat that scent.
Thank you very much, Kris.
My sister lived in FL for many years and would often lament her inability to grow lilacs and peonies. I know I would miss that scent.
a beautifully composed arrangement! I adore the sweet scent of lilacs.
Thank you, Ann.
I can almost smell it from here! My father used to bring my mother a big bunch of lilac each year (taken from the old graveyard not far from our house) – at least that was till she got her own lilac tree:)
A bouquet of lilacs is the most delightful of surprises. My husband brought me my first sprigs, letting me know they were starting to bloom. I get so busy, I sometimes miss the edges of the yard!
I can almost smell them from here
🙂 Thank you, Dorris.
Everyone said what I wanted to say… about almost smelling them 🙂
Well, but I do too. That’s what a photo can do with you!!
Really lovely!! Fragrance, flowers and pictures!
Thank you so much, Noortje!
Absolutely stunning and they smell so gooooood too 🙂
Thank you, Ann, much appreciated!
Lovely, the vase is a nice one too. Love the lilac smell.
Thank you, I love the smell of lilacs, too. However, their season is simply too short!
Lovely!
Beautiful, I can just image the smell. How do you condition them for your vase?
I crush the ends gently with a hammer, or splay manually with clippers. I have to repeat it every couple days with fresh cuts and clean vase, otherwise, they won’t last.
the backyard was once full of lilacs, over time.. they’ve vanished.. they were on thr neighbours side.. it was so nice to see such a lovely display… I could instantly recall the fragrances that would drift our way. nice.
Lilacs invoke lots of fond memories.
The mix of colors makes this even lovelier. Beautiful vase you’ve used today as well.
Thank you!
Perhaps – and only perhaps – the only better thing than a vase of lilacs is a vase of peonies.
GMTA, I’m right there with your thinking. 🙂
I need to figure out where to put both a couple lilacs and some peonies in the yard here. I wanted to get some in this year, but I’m thinking that may not happen (especially as I just started getting in the annuals today!).
Peonies are planted in late summer/early fall, so you have time for those. Lilacs can be planted then, too. 🙂
Excellent! I am not too late!
So lovely – and what a fragrance!
Thank you, Fi!
Awesome photograph, and that vase…so elegant! You must have an amazing garden!
Loved the info about the turtles, too.
Thank you!
I can almost smell ’em from here. 🙂
🙂 Thanks for visiting!
When less is more.
Thank you, Anca.

wonderful lilacs!
Thank you for sharing!
I don’t have lilacs and have to catch up on the smell when I see specimens elsewhere! Yours must smell divine – and the fern vase is SO sweet… Thanks for sharing
Thank you kindly, Cathy!
Oh, why can’t there be smell-o-rama?! I don’t have a lilac shrub but so enjoy them all over this area. I don’t know why I didn’t plant one – lack of room, wildlife value … what about sensory value???
These were here when we moved in 26 years ago. I am grateful they were!
Yummy! Perfect vase too.
Thank you, Marian!
Simply beautiful, wish I could smell it!
Thank you, I wish there was an app for that!
Me, too. the smellovision app
😀
Fabulous Eliza – I can almost smell the scent coming from the computer screen. You can’t beat a simple arrangement of luscious flowers.
Thank you, Cathy.
These are amazing Eliza! I love the color and its variants.
Thank you, Maria. Lilacs have the most heavenly scent and come in many shades of white, pink, lavender and purple. And there are double cultivars as well. A popular shrub up here in the north.
This is so beautiful!
Thank you! I wish I could share the fragrance as well. 🙂
Me too!
There’s a bright yellow flower out in the wash where we walk the dogs. It is quite abundant, and it smells just like bubblegum. I ought to do a post on it.
Yes, do!
That’s a nice arrangement. It’s rather subtle and understated. 🙂
Thank you, Bun. Lilacs I find do well all on their own. With that scent, nothing else is needed. 🙂
They do have a nice scent. 🙂
Found my way here through another blog but I’m super glad I did! Such lovely photographs… I haven’t looked through all of your posts by I’ve loved every pixel of whatever I’ve seen so far 🙂
Do visit me when you have a moment. I hope you like what you read…
Lots of love to you! Cheers
Thank you for your visit, Aishwarya!
