For this week’s vase, I’ve used yellow daylilies (Hemerocallis ‘Happy Returns’), white flowering tobacco (Nicotiana alata) and purple ladybells (Adenophora confusa). 
Daisy fleabane (Erigeron annuus) is used as filler and a few lady’s mantle (Alchemilla mollis) leaves are the green.
One of my favorite vases is this cobalt blue one that complements just about anything I choose to put in it. My mom had a similar one when I was growing up so it carries a bit of nostalgia for me as well. It is set upon a vintage Jean Vier Basque linen napkin.

How long do the day lilies last in the vase?
Thank you, Val. Each daylily blossom, true to its name, only lasts a day. If a stem has multiple buds that are mature enough, they will open as well. I pull out stems that are finished if the other items are still looking well when I change the water every couple days.
A part of me wanted them to live a bit longer in the vase … I’d better accept reality 🙂
It works best if you pick one with a few buds, every day a fresh bloom!

Beautiful! Very francais – french country. Love the summery colors. I’ve been pulling out Lady bells because they takeover but I have come to realize I will never be without. They are marching up my driveway and the bees do love them.
Thank you, Kathy. I have always loved ladybells, and the little patch in my garden hasn’t got out of hand after several years (probably not ideal for them so they are slow to spread). I was surprised to see that the deer munched them in May…I thought the milky sap would deter them, but go figure.
Those deer will try anything! I remember when the rabbits actually ate my marigolds!
