For this week’s vase, I’ve used warm-colored flowers from the garden that you can see off the deck in the background. The calendula and fleabane have been allowed to self sow into exhilarating abundance! Since we eat all meals outside this time of year, we really are enjoying it.
Other than orange and yellow calendula (C. officinalis), I’ve added sundrops (Oenothera tetragona), salvia (S. x sylvestris) and common daylily (Hemerocallis fulva).
Lady’s mantle (Alchemilla mollis) again features as filler and the accent grass is yellow foxtail (Setaria lutescens). The vase is a vintage ironstone pitcher from England that once belonged to my mother-in-law.
Thanks to Cathy at Rambling In the Garden, who hosts a weekly meme to showcase what is blooming in our gardens by creating arrangements to enjoy inside our homes. Just beautiful! Love it!
Thank you, my dear! ❤
Your flowers and photos are a feast of bright colors….and the arrangement is spectacular like fireworks in a vase!
Thanks so much, Donna.
I was just over enjoying your recent post. Amazing that you got 21″ of rain in June! Biblical! Apparently the weeds are liking it as much as your plants. 😉 Good work on moving them out. It is endless, isn’t it? If I didn’t mulch, I’d go crazy with it.
These are lovely colors, soft and pretty. 🙂
Thank you, Judy!
Beautifully arranged and depicted
Many thanks, Derrick!
Just beautiful, Eliza, especially with the garden as backdrop.
Thank you, Mary! ❤
Wow……what a brilliant display, inside & outside the vase! Very nice…….
Thank you! ❤
Ahh… such gorgeous photos, Eliza! I do so love when things grow wild. ❤
And the arrangement in the vase… well done! 🙂
Thanks so much, Julie! 🙂
Your vase is a beautiful, fluffy concoction with all that Alchemilla, Eliza, but what really impressed me was the view from your deck – gorgeous!
Thanks, Kris. We do enjoy the yard a lot in summer, since we are inside so much of the year.
I loved your 3 vases this week, very nice! I esp. love the digiplexis, a plant I cannot grow, but adore!
Eliza, your vase is so lush and brilliantly colored. Gorgeous views of your garden too. I like that you enjoy all your meals outside. Must be lovely to look out over the flowers while you dine.
Thank you! It is such a balm for the soul, we are out there as much as we can. Best restaurant in town. 😉
Yet another stunning vase Eliza. Our day-lilies should be open by the end of the week – so not too far behind you. Your garden is awash with colour. Truly lovely.
Thanks so much. They were right on time this year, first of July. We have other hybrids, but the ‘ditch lily’ is one I don’t mind cutting.
When you say ‘Ditch lily’ – do they grow wild with you?
Boy, do they ever! Most folks frown upon them as ‘common’ or ‘weeds’, but they are just fine by me! There are far worse plants and I find them quite manageable.
Such rich images Eliza, thank you for sharing your wealth! 🙂
Wow! Now that’s what you call a cutting patch. Makes you glad to be alive doesn’t it?
Absolutely! I wish I could add scent to the post – the fleabane smells like honey. Thanks for your visit, Gillian!
Beautiful Eliza.
Thank you, Karen!
Oh, I love your cutting patch. I was thinking last weekend when I cut a bouquet that all the colors are warm now. I had to hunt around for some blues to cool it all down. Yours is lovely!
Thank you so much! I usually plant S. farinacea, but this year I didn’t and I miss it. We need blue in the garden, don’t we? 🙂
Gorgeous.
Thanks, Gigi!
it is all soooo Beautiful ! 🙂 ❤
Thank you, Trini! ❤
🙂
You are SO good at this Eliza! The colors and arrangements are absolutely gorgeous.
Dor, you are too kind. 🙂 Thank you so much!
Wow – what a stunning summery vase! I love your mix of colors, and the fullness of your bouquet. Looks like you have many more flowers where those came from and could fill your entire house if you wanted to. Happy Monday!
Thank you, Rebecca! Yes, plenty of calendula, they self sow like mad! Since I had no other plans for that space, I let them take over. We joined a CSA, so no longer use that space for veggies except for a few tomatoes, cukes and basil.
Your RWB vase against the flag was a great holiday theme this week. And I loved your story about the baby deer in your garden – how awesome! So glad Momma came back. 🙂
The colours in our vases were very similar this week, Eliza. I love how you photographed the vase in front of the flowers in the border.
Thank you, Christina. 🙂
What a lovely feast for the eyes!
Thanks so much, Fi!
My – that’s a lot of calendula you have! You have most usefully used them in your vase today with perfect partners. Is your hemerocallis really as orange as that? My H fulva (which didn’t flower last year but is budding up nicely now) is more yellow than this so I am curious. All in all a warm and sunny vase – thanks for sharing it
Thanks, Cathy. Yes, our H. fulva is very orange! A yellow version sounds nice. Hopefully, you’ll post a pic of it when it blooms. 🙂
And now that mine has flowered again, Eliza, I see it is far more orange than I remember, so not yellow at all!
Have they naturalized in your area? They are pretty widespread here in New England.
Not as a rule, but I am sure they would escape given half a chance!
Love the colors in your vase this week and a peek of your ‘meadow’ 🙂
Thank you very much!
Great combination, on calendulas I love them, and may make room in my little garden for them next year, after seeing them on your blog. When I had an allotment, I always had a big patch of them.
Thank you, Noelle. Calendulas are the perfect flower as they pretty much take care of themselves, year after year. 🙂
I visited your post, but because I am not on blogspot, I can’t comment. Even some wordpress sites give me trouble, not sure why. But I thought your arrmt. was beautiful and loved your essay. I’m glad you posted a photo anyway and even if you didn’t list all the names, etc. I give you an A+ because you gave it to someone who needed cheering up! 🙂
Your beautiful wild garden has been transformed into a sophisticated display in the lovely pitcher. Lovely summer colours too. 🙂
Thanks so much, Joanne. I love the thought that an arrangement is a mini-garden! 🙂
Gorgeous! I love your view of the garden, too. Calendula is one of my favorites. It has run rampant in my Potager but that’s okay. We eat (and basically) live on our back porch pretty much year round now that we have windows and a wood stove, ha ha. I love looking over the garden and hearing the birds.
Thanks, Kathy. It is a slice of heaven to be outside in summer, isn’t it?
Sometimes you just make me want to come and visit your home 🙂
Well, if you are ever in western Mass. I hope you will do just that. I would love it! ❤
Wow, that first photo is like a fourth of July spectacular. Your garden is so opulent!
High praise, thank you so much! 🙂
Such warm colors, and so uplifting! You are so lucky! 🙂
Thank you, Ana. Yes, I do feel quite blessed! 🙂
You always has the most beautiful flowers in a vase. And all the other photos are so amazing 🙂
Thanks so much, you are kind to say so!
Absolutely stunning , Eliza 😊 These warm colors are the epitome of summer . Your garden looks fabulous, and it must be so nice to eat out of doors and enjoy it!
Thank you! We LOVE our deck. We were out there for most of the afternoon (north facing so it is shaded) and for all 3 meals. We look at the garden, yard, wooded edge and sky and sigh with our collective blessings. Tomorrow is our 25th year here. 🙂
Happy anniversary ! You live in a blessed place . …
Thank you, I do agree! ❤
